A Message from Mrs. Anderson
Dear Families,

The gospel message this past Sunday was from John’s gospel, chapter 15. In that gospel John reminded us that “Jesus is the vine and we are the branches.” Further along, Jesus says, “This is my command: Love each other as I have loved you.” Those beautiful words are reiterated on our Core Value poster under LOVE and on Saturday last week, those words put into action. Many children and parents came out and labored in the school area pruning bushes, pulling weeds, tending the garden area and sweeping trash. How wonderful it is to see our actions bespeak our words and how modeling for our children sets them up to continue God’s work.

Many Thanks! Our OLG school community is a giving community par excellence! From the tremendous hard work of the Auction Committee under Elizabeth Huizar and Allison Riker, to the many coaches of our CYO teams, to the clean up crew who came out on Earth Clean Up Day, we are blessed and grateful to you all. Parents at OLG make the difference in so many ways and your children reap the rewards of your labor. Thank you from all of the Staff at school for all you say “Yes” to when we ask!

Principal for the Day: As you may recall, earlier in the year Marco Bravo helped me for a day by acting as the Principal. He did a marvelous job and endeared himself to the students with his treats to all of them. Now Kaliya Kirkwood is going to take over on Friday. She too has plans to make this a great day for all here, both staff and students. Learning how to lead an entire school may be setting these students up for careers in education, and I sure hope so!

FYI - Data on Catholic Schools:
From the  NCEA  (National Catholic Education Association)
Parents, I thought you would find the following information interesting. According to the latest data collected on Catholic schools, the NCEA reports there are
1,274, 162 children in elementary and middle schools in 176 Catholic dioceses with Catholic schools. Based on the average public school per pupil cost of $11,454, Catholic schools provide more than 21  billion  dollars a year savings for the nation. The student teacher ratio is 12:1. Now this is good news to brag about!

Auction: It’s almost here! Our annual Auction/Dinner is coming this Saturday and it is my hope that as many of you as can come to this beautifully planned evening. Last day to get your tickets is today! I wonder who will go home with our special prize---the Kevin Durant framed jersey?

Our year-end school concert, instrument demonstrations, and party will be on Wednesday, May 23 in Stack Center starting at 1:00 p.m.

After 12 years of teaching band at Our Lady of Grace, I am retiring at the end of this school year. It is bittersweet for me. I look forward to enjoying my retirement with hobbies and traveling, but will miss working with such talented students. I have truly loved being a part of the wonderful OLG community and being able to bring the joy of music to so many people. My true passions have always been music and teaching, and being able to combine those and help so many students reach their full potential, has been a real honor for me.

Thank you all so very much!

MUSE will continue at OLG next year and is currently looking for a new band teacher.

As always, if you have any questions, please let me know.

VBS RETURNS TO OLG THIS SUMMER
July 23-27 ~ 9:00 AM-12 NOON

We are excited to introduce you to Jackie Cruz our new VBS Director!
“Hello, my name is Jackie and I'm a mama to three and my children enjoy participating in VBS. I think kids are attracted to the "learn by doing" approach that VBS embraces.  We learn about Jesus and the impact of his Word by the experiences we share with one another during the week.   I have been volunteering in various leadership roles with Vacation Bible School for the past 6 summers and it is always a highlight of my summer. I invite you to share in the joy that serving in VBS as a leader can bring! It takes many hearts and hands to make VBS in a parish a successful event.”
Registration forms for Campers, and Adult and Teen Volunteers are available on-line and in the Parish office.

Parking Lot, Pick Up, Morning Drop Off and Assembly
Driving through the parking lot at drop off and pick up: Please limit your speed to 5 mph in the parking lot when children are around. This is a very important safety issue. The Somerset and San Miguel gates are entrances for morning drop off. You may exit Somerset and Anita after morning drop off. The San Miguel Gate is NOT an exit ever. The Anita gates are NOT an entrance ever. At pick up the only entrance is through the San Miguel Gate. Somerset and Anita is for exit only for pick up.
At dismissal, if you have a child in grades 4-8, drive in along the parking lot by the church unless they have a sibling in primary grades.     Please do not park in the shady area by the trees as that is the drive through area for cars picking up on the side for the younger children.   Older siblings always are to wait with the younger wear morning line up takes place. All students in grades TK-3 will be escorted to cars by their teacher or aide at dismissal. Wednesday dismissal is always 2:30 as we have faculty meetings that day.
Please be sure your child is on time  at the first bell as at the second bell each student has to be in his/her class line to avoid a Tardy slip.
Parents, please stand at the back of the class lines during morning assembly so the class lines are paying full attention to the Student Council prayer time and pledge. Please do not walk your child to the gate to enter school.
