Lubbock Lake Landmark Conducts Prescribed Burn

The Landmark staff conducted a 40-acre prescribed burn on January 9, 2014. In previous burns the crew has been limited, however this time we had the support of two Lubbock Fire Department brush trucks, the Texas Tech University Fire Ecologist, and a few volunteers. This experience successfully provided the fire department with a training exercise, the volunteers with an unprecedented hands-on learning experience, and assisted us in our goal of land restoration and hazard mitigation.

The Art Division has a new Diamond M collection management intern, Cheryl Palyu. Beginning in mid-January, Cheryl will initially focus on examination and documentation of the condition, cataloging, and storage updating of the Japanese and Chinese stone and ivory sculptures in the Diamond M Collection. Cheryl recently received her MA in art history from North Texas University and, as she notes, seeks "to work within an art museum with an Asian art collection either as a curator or collection manager...The skills learned through this internship build upon my limited previous museum experience and expand my knowledge of East Asian art." This one-year internship is generously funded with a grant from the Diamond M Foundation.
