Leading One
Part of the American Dream that is often a myth is the assumption that bigger is always better and that progress is always improvement. When we see that stocks are up or housing prices are up, we instantly think improvement! When churches get bigger or when they build new buildings, we think that is a sign of great progress. Similarly, the new job, new car or any other thing that is new must be better. We all simply know that this is not the case. Sometimes progress is backwards and bigger just means bloated.
The Bible dispels the myth of "bigger is always better" with each passing page. In story after story we read of those single individuals who simply made one simple choice and the world is different because of it. When reading the story of Deborah and Barak in the Book of Judges, we see a great leader in Deborah whose scope of influence was with one single person named Barak. Deborah did not command armies nor was she a queen. She simply had influence on one other person. Whenever we influence just one person, we are a leader. Period. If that is true then just about all of us are leaders.
Who is the one person you are influencing (leading) today? How is God using you to make a difference in that one person's life? More importantly, do you believe that your influence on that one person can make all the difference in the world? Deborah believed it and so did countless other characters from the Bible. Are you leading others, even one person, with the belief that they might just change the world? During our summer worship series called "Lead Where You Are," we are painting a clear picture that each and every one of us does not need to do something BIG just to do something great! Join us in worship to discover how your life can become the life of a leader, sometimes of just one.
Blessings,
Craig Brown
