The Second Sunday of Easter

Dear Members of Pax Christi,

We hold the death of the Lord, deep in our hearts;
living, now we remain, with Jesus the Christ.

Refrain from Now We Remain by David Haas

The Scriptures of the liturgical cycle of the seven weeks of Easter are rich stories of the appearances of Jesus and the response of the eye witnesses to those manifestations of the Risen One. As we have been challenged to place ourselves in the descriptive stories of the Holy Week and Easter Sunday events, the invitation still remains as we examine, like Thomas wished to, the wounds and presence of Jesus and their meaning for us today.

Richard Rohr, in his book Immortal Diamond: The Search for Our True Self, helps us to understand more clearly a perspective of the message of the Resurrection:
In all accounts, the Risen Body still carries Christ's scars and reveals them too - hands, feet, and side are all mentioned. Remember that resurrection is not woundedness denied, forgotten, or even totally healed. It is always woundedness transformed. You still carry your scars forever, as both message and trophy. They still "hurt" in a way, which keeps you mindful and humble, but they no longer allow you to hurt other people. Pain transformed is no longer pain transmitted.

We are who we are. We each have our stories, hopefully a mixture of the joyous, the painful, the wondrous, the challenging, the astounding, the sad, the humorous, with wisdom collected from all of the events of our lives to form our story. We often think that we could write a book about all the unusual circumstances and ordinary narratives that make up our life story. The book is being written. How we live in the light of the Resurrection becomes the subtitle.

What a wonderful blessing of story, ritual, and prayer that the liturgies of the Triduum and Easter gave us! Over 7,200 parishioners and guests graced each other throughout the Triduum and Easter Sunday. Great gratitude to the many staff and shared ministers involved in these liturgies that made it a prayer of praise to God and a celebration of our life in the Risen Christ.

Here is a report of your generosity from the last few weeks:
  • In our weekly food donations to PROP, 2,384 pounds of food was shared in March, and our Palm Sunday collection, including the Faith Formation Soup collection, amounted to 2,046 pounds of food and a $20.00 donation.
  • The Holy Thursday offering will be going to PROP in a check for $1,952.00.
  • The Twelve Baskets Easter Basket Drive delivered 356 Easter baskets to Holy Rosary, Eastside Learning, Extension Services, and PROP, with 24 shared ministers assisting in the collecting, assembling, and distributing of the baskets.
  • The Good Friday collection to the Holy Land was $3,020.00.

Easter blessings on your week!

What Would Jesus DO?
  Our theme for this year's Bible Camp allows our campers and volunteers to explore fun and outreach as we spread the love of Jesus throughout our world. This year we will be sharing our craft creations with local care centers, YouthLink, PROP, and the CAP agency. Our campers and hundreds of volunteers will experience the joy of Christmas in July, the first miracle performed by Jesus, the calming of the stressful "seas" in our lives, and the first "happy meal." We welcome ages three to 100 to participate.  Register your children and grandchildren, and then volunteer and grow in your own faith as your children grow in theirs.

Retreat begins with Mass at 8:30am, followed by a light breakfast, presentation, and lunch will follow in the Hall of Martyrs. Our featured speaker will be Dr. Jacquelyne Witter, well known retreat leader, speaker, educator, and spiritual director. She has chosen to address us on the topic of We Are an Easter People and Alleluia Is Our Song! As Christians we are called to be filled with joy and to share that joy with everyone we meet. Pope Francis, in his writing The Joy of the Gospel, reminds us of this call and invitation. So what does this look like in 'real life'? We will consider what joy is and the difference it makes in our own lives and in the lives of the people around us.

Fee for this event is covered for those who are Boomers and Beyond members. Those who are not members may enjoy this special event for a fee of $15 per person with reservation and payment in advance.
