We hit the ground running today with TWO community service projects:
Ready to say goodbye to all that Halloween Candy? Our student Leadership is collecting all wrapped Halloween Candy for the Blue Star Moms who will ship it to our service men and women overseas. Thanks, Leaders for providing cards and letters to help a friend far from home. We will collect candy from November 1 through November 8. Thank you, Lyn Hirahara, for organizing this project for us once again.
At the same time, students are collecting canned goods for the Food Bank. Here are some preferred items being collected:
peanut butter, whole grain cereal, low sodium soup, beans and lentils (dry and canned), canned tuna and chicken in water, canned fruit in juice, nonperishable, low sodium ready to eat food (ravioli, chili, etc.), low sodium canned vegetables, whole grain pasta, canned tomatoes.
The Food drive will be in effect from November 1 through November 30.

From the PTA President
What a great week we have had here at Murwood, from the Read-a-thon, to the Book Fair and the Halloween Carnival! It was great seeing so many of you at the Carnival and the Book Fair.
I want to thank Shelden Hyde for the Read-a-Thon, Andrea Slavet for the Book Fair and Rose Stein for an Awesome Halloween Carnival! Remember if you haven't registered your child for the Read-A-Thon, you still have a few more days left.
Mark your calendars, our next PTA meeting will be on Tuesday, November 15th. I hope to see you all there.
Read-A-Thon Dates Oct 24- Nov 7
The Murwood Read-A-Thon is into its second week! We got off to a terrific start. We have raised over 64% of our $10,000 goal. Unfortunately, our donations have tapered off greatly since last Friday.
We are hoping this new fundraiser will raise money for Murwood Elementary while helping motivate our kids to further develop their love for reading.
Murwood PTA provides essential funds for: computers and technology in every classroom, professional staff development, the library and its media center, playground equipment, classroom and office supplies, disaster preparedness supplies, our garden area, community events, education assemblies, character development programing and so much more!
Personalized information sheets went home last week and reminder sheets went home earlier this week. Follow the link to your child's personal Read-a-Thon page. Every student that registers with the site receives a prize. If parents have questions please contact the admin at email@example.com.
Our goal is within our sights! All students are invited to our "read-in"
on Thursday after school, from
2:40 through 3:10 in the MPR. It might surprise you to know that all donations have come from only 25% of families and their friends . Imagine what we could do if we got other 25% of students to participate?!?
Thank you, in advance, for
supporting the Read-A-Thon. LE
T'S KEEP UP THE READING!
