Principal's Message
Dear Murwood Families,

Thank you, Kevin King and Colleen Wolff, for your informative presentation on Outdoor Education at last night's PTA meeting.  If you haven't joined PTA yet, please be part of our community!  We have our Welcome Back Picnic this Friday night, complete with tunes by DJ Dave and a PTA dessert.  We ask that you leave pets at home, as this is a school function, and that if you are packing a picnic, to leave alcohol at home.  Our school is alcohol, drug and tobacco free all day, every day.  Thank you for your cooperation.
We had our first emergency drill in August, and managed to evacuate the multipurpose room after a school wide assembly in record time.  It is important that we practice and that your children feel safe and comfortable in all scenarios.    Please know we do these drills monthly to ensure your child's safety.  For your family's safety, please practice at home, too.
If you happen to see the Sheriff parked in our lot during drop off, please know we are partnering with them to help with traffic calming.  They are not here in response to a distress call, but rather, as a reminder to drive slowly, respect our traffic safety rules, and always be on the lookout for unpredictable pedestrians.  Set the standard for your child and stay off your cell when in our lot, take your place in line, wait patiently, and allow us to help your child out of the car to keep traffic moving.  We find when we have parents get out of their cars, other parents become impatient and try to race around, resulting in accidents.

Thank you,
Carol Nenni
Murwood Principal
From the Office

REMINDER:  There is NO SCHOOL this Monday, 26th September.  Enjoy the 3-day weekend!
PARKING LOT SAFETY:  During drop-off and pick-up times, please slow down, pull up as far as you can, and be mindful of our little ones.  DO NOT park in the yellow drop-off lane and leave your car.  When parking, for either drop-off, pick-up, or during the day, please use only the spaces that are NOT designated for Staff or Food Service.  Occasionally, staff need to leave campus during the day and need to know that their spot will still be here when they return.  Also, do not park in the designated 'Auction Winner' spot - one of our families bid generously to have that spot exclusively available to them any time they are on campus.  Thank you for your help in keeping things moving smoothly and keeping our students safe out there!
From the PTA President

We had a great first PTA meeting last night!  I want to say THANK YOU to Mr. King and Mrs. Wolff for giving their time and presenting on 5th grade camp.  It was so great to not only see the students get to do and learn, BUT to see the genuine excitement in Mr. King and Mrs. Wolff.  Our kids are going to have such a great time learning in October!!

I would like to thank Amy Cole, Heather Houston and Amy Mason for filling our Secretary, Historian and 3rd Co-VP positions.

If you are a numbers person, we would love to have you as our Financial Secretary. If you are interested, please contact me .

Our Walking Club is off to a great start!  Thank you to Dawn Greenaway for volunteering to be our coordinator.  We still need help on Thursdays and Fridays...if you are available, please let us know.

Last but not least....Friday is our Welcome Back Picnic!!  You won't want to miss DJ Dave and the chance to get to know more families here at Murwood!  I look forward to seeing you all there!!

Danielle Scheg
PTA President

This year's PTA Reflections program has started!  This national PTA program is an arts recognition and achievement program for children. Students can express themselves creatively on the theme of "What Is Your Story?"  Entries can be submitted in any/all of the following categories:  dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography, and visual arts.

There is a Reflection box in the office with all the official rules and the entry form, or you can go to .  Once your child has completed their project, they can turn it in to this same box in the office. All entries must be turned in by Oct 17.

This year we are holding two workshops for students to work on art projects.  There will be a workshop for TK-2 on September 29.  On October 6 there will be a workshop for grades 3-5.  Both workshops will be held in room 24 (the art room) from 2:35-3:30.  If your child would like to attend, please email  to request a spot.  Workshops are limited to 12 students each.  Parent MUST fill out the PTA permission slip  in order to attend.  Art supplies will be provided at the workshops.

Please contact Stacy Cerruti at  if you have any questions.
Welcome Back Picnic
Friday, September 23 from 5-7 PM

Join your Murwood friends for a  school -wide  picnic . Bring your lawn chairs/blanket and a  picnic  dinner.  DJ Dave will be spinning our favorite tunes on the field as everyone kicks off the 2016-2017 school year!  Dessert will be provided. Please remember that parents must attend with their children, as there is no school supervision. Please leave your pets at home!  Our campus is pet free during school hours and events.  Thank you!

We will also be hosting a Halloween Costume Exchange/Donation. Bring your gently used Halloween Costumes to share with the Murwood Community. Looking for a Halloween costume? Find one at the  picnic!! All remaining costumes will be donated to a local charity.  We hope to see you after there!
We Need You!
Volunteer  Opportunities

The school year has begun and we are busy planning a lot of great activities for the year and we need you! There are a lot of opportunities for us all to make a difference helping our kids.

Currently, we need help with -
  1. Walking Club - Do you have time from 11:45-12:30pm to spend some fun time with the kids? We are looking for 3 volunteers to help support one of our most popular programs. This is a great opportunity especially for FIRST-GRADE PARENTS as walking club is one of the first opportunities the kids have to be involved in a program since they are at school during lunch. This is fun because you get to be at school with your kids and watch them play with their friends. We also welcome any grandparents that would be willing to help out!
  2. Webmaster - Does anyone have any technological know-how they can share? We need someone who can spend 1-2 hours per week updating our website.
  3. WCEF Representative - Can you attend a monthly meeting of the Walnut Creek Education Foundation? After the meeting you will only need you to update the PTA. It's an easy job and you get to hear about what is happening across all schools in the WCEF.
There are a lot more volunteer opportunities available. Please contact Samantha Balboni (925-788-6226) or Janet Parella (415-305-7017) to sign up!
