New Mission and Vision Values for Dakota Community Centre
dimensions 362x146
As part of a strategic planning exercise undertaken by the Board earlier this year, Dakota Community Centre has a new Vision, Mission and Values to help guide the Centre as it plans for its exciting future.

Our Vision - An engaged, healthy, vibrant community

Our Mission - A gathering place providing excellence in recreation and sports for everyone

Our Values -
  • Inclusiveness - welcoming, safe and accessible
  • Teamwork - partnerships and volunteerism
  • Fairness - responsibility and respect
  • Opportunity - nurturing and achieving potential
  • Excellence - exceptional facilities and programs
Community members, volunteers, Board and staff provided input into the planning process, with the Board gathering over two weekends in January to craft the Vision, Mission & Values, as well as to set strategic priorities for the next 3 - 5 years.

"It's wonderful to see the passion and collaboration of so many result in these important guiding statements for our Centre" said Tom Thiessen, Board President.   He added, "I sincerely believe the message of who were are as an organization, what we're here to do and, the principles that guide us as along the way, are clearly reflected in this framework and, will serve us well as we grow and plan for our future."

Community Takes Full Advantage of Free Ice Over Spring Break
Hundreds of people took to the ice to enjoy free public skating and stick and puck during Spring Break.  "After the very positive response to our free skating/stick & puck during the Christmas break, we decided to make this available to the community during Spring Break as well", said Michele Augert, CEO.  "We were thrilled to see so many people come out and enjoy some time on the ice.  Both sheets were quite full during the 4 hours each day over the 7 days we offered the opportunity", she added.

Tom Thiessen, Board President said "Offering these types of free community events are consistent with the Centre's new strategic framework and our Mission as  a gathering place, providing excellence in recreation and sports for everyone.   Community Centre's play and important role in the engagement,  vibrancy and health of our communities and, we are committed to doing our part through these efforts."

4x4 SUMMER HOCKEY LEAGUE

SUMMER HOCKEY LEAGUE
After taking a year off last summer due to rink maintenance projects, we are re-introducing the 4x4 youth summer hockey league again!  Its a fun, recreational league, that takes place at the Dakota Community Centre during the months of July and August. It allows your child to stay on their skates, in a low pressure environment to work on their puck skills and creativity!

This is a non body contact, 12 game season. Each game is 3 periods of 17 minute running time. Due to the running time, we attempt to eliminate as many whistles as possible.  Icings may be waved off at times, and refs are encouraged to call off-sides, but also let the kids play if its a really close call at the blue line. Penalties all result in penalty shots for the opposing teams to really create a lot of excitement. On any penalty, the player interfered with will start at the red line, while all other players take a knee on the far blue line. On the refs whistle, everyone goes, with rebounds being live and play to continue immediately should the player not score on the attempt.

The league is geared towards Atom (9-10), Peewee (11-12), Bantam (13-14) and Midget (15-17) aged kids. When possible, I would like to use the age groupings your child would be in next hockey season to determine which age group to place them in, however, I am flexible in moving kids around to make sure they are placed with other buddies or neighborhood kids they would like to play with.
Registration can be done as a full team or just as an individual. Should you have a group of buddies, but not enough for a team - you can mark on the registration form the other kids your child would like to play with. Registration is open to male and female players.
