Justice Offering: Lutheran Volunteer Corps...

The first Sunday of every month, St. Luke's collects a justice offering to help support organizations that promote justice efforts both within our community and around the world.

The justice offering for August will be designated for the Lutheran Volunteer Corps (LVC). St. Luke's is the support congregation for a group of volunteers who live in Logan Square.  The justice offering will be used to buy groceries for the beginning of the year-long service that begins at the end of August for the 2012-2013 LVC volunteers.  Several past and present members of our congregation have participated in the Lutheran Volunteer Corps.  Please see the article by Kate Fritz in The Messenger to learn more about LVC!
St. Luke's Town Hall Meeting and Ice Cream Social...
Please plan to stay after worship this Sunday, August 5, for a town hall meeting and ice cream social. Hear about proposed changes to church governance; get updates on the first half of the year; then share what you love (and don't love) about St. Luke's so we can work together to shape our community, both now and in the future. The social will last about forty-five minutes. Council members: please bring an ice cream topping to share.

Lutheran Day Nursery...

Lutheran Day Nursery (LDN) will offer a discounted rate to any family from St. Luke's Lutheran Church of Logan Square. LDN exists to support churches and their families by providing the highest quality childcare and early childhood education in an environment that is consistent with the love of God in Christ, affirming God's work in their lives while teaching the values and principles of God's word.

The current market rate is $200 per week, but LDN is offering the St. Luke's community a special rate of $150 per week. If your family qualifies for Action for Children, the Illinois state childcare supplement, LDN will work with you to ensure an even lower weekly rate. They will also waive the $25 registration fee for St. Luke's families. To receive the discounted rate and fee waiver, you must notify LDN that you are a part of the St. Luke's community. Registration begins after August 13.

Please visit www.lutherandaynursery.org or www.lutheranday.blogspot.com for more details.

The Gifts We Bring...

Your commitments of time and talent form the basis of the ministry we do as St. Luke's. At this time of year, we start the process of assessing what we, as a community, have to work with, and what work we can hope to carry out in the year ahead -- in our shared spiritual life, in mission & outreach, and in all the other parts of the life of St. Luke's.

Please take a few minutes to thoughtfully complete the form called "The Gifts We Bring," which can be found in print form in the narthex and can be accessed online via the link below.

Please follow this link to participate electronically.

Prayer Requests...

Please remember the following people and circumstances in your prayers:

  • Prayers for all the families affected by the tragic shootings of Aurora, Colorado-both the victims and the shooter's.
  • For the family of Jeannie Krips, mother-in-law of Andrew Cichon, who passed away on July 28th.
  • For the safe return of Jackson Kreiser, 19, missing since Saturday, July 28 and last seen hiking in Glacier National Park, Montana.
The ministry of prayer is the vocation of all Christians, and St. Luke's takes seriously its calling to pray for all in need. If you would like to be included on the prayer list, please contact the church office or Pastor Erik. Prayer requests remain on the list for three weeks before being removed, and requests can be renewed as often as needed.
