The Women's Fund Annual Fund Do Party

Don't miss out on the fun!
Our second annual
Fund Do Party
is coming up on
Thursday, May 11th
from 5:30-7:30pm at the Milton Rhodes Center for the Arts in downtown Winston-Salem.
Tickets are $35 and include wonderful food, wine/beer, music, and fabulous door prizes. Bring your friends, and make new ones, as we connect with others in our community who want to see
all
women and girls thrive.
The Fund Do Party is a live
and
online event where each person can use their smart phone or other device to interact with friends online, create awareness, raise funds and win great prizes. Essentially, it's a high-tech cocktail party that elevates fundraising to a new level. Our emcee this year is Holly May, Promotions Manager at WXLV-ABC45, and we expect to surpass last year's attendance of more than 100 guests.
Here's how it works: First, click the link below
Then,
you
decide how you want to participate. A number of individuals have already started raising funds individually and competing for great prizes, and you can, too! The website tells you how to register and create your own, custom fundraising page. (It's easy!) Or, if you want to support one of our individual fundraisers instead, find him or her on the leader board and click on his or her name. Your ticket purchase or donation will boost
their
ranking!
Each ticket sold and
every
donation - in
any
amount, helps the Women's Fund in its mission. And, because this is a technology-driven event, friends from anywhere and everywhere can join in!
If you can't attend the party in-person, you can
still
be part of the excitement by logging onto the website and watching the live-stream of the event.
The goal of the
Fund Do
party is to create a pool of
additional
funds that we can use to strategically address more systemic issues, over a longer period of time. Last year, proceeds from the event totaled $14,381. With your help, we hope to nearly double that this year.
Please help us spread the word by sharing with your friends on facebook and following #FundDoWS on Twitter. We'll be updating you on our progress and adding more great prizes between now and May 11th

Winston-Salem Women Making History
At the Women's Fund, we know our city produces and encourages phenomenal women from all walks of life. As we close out Women's History Month, we celebrate some Winston- Salemites that are
currently
making history.
Probably the most well-known is Golden Globe-winning actress
Angela Bassett
. Bassett was raised by her aunt near Salem Lake before she relocated to St. Petersburg, Florida, and ultimately to Los Angeles. She gained recognition for her role as Tina Turner in "
What's Love Got To Do With It"
and as Betty Shabazz in "
Malcolm X
". She was the first African-American to win the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – and her career continues to soar.
The youngest on our list is 20 year-old Olympic Gold medalist,
Kathleen Baker
. Baker attended Forsyth Country Day School and commuted between Winston-Salem and Charlotte to train with SwimMAC Carolina. At the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, she won a gold medal in the 4x100-meter medley relay and a silver medal in the individual 100-meter backstroke. She is not only an incredible athlete, she is inspiring in her determination to bring awareness to Crohn’s Disease. And, she also happens to be the daughter of Women's Fund member, Kimberley Baker.
Lois Patricia "Peaches" Golding
has just been appointed Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of the County and City of Bristol. Peaches grew up in Winston- Salem and attended our very own R.J. Reynolds High School. In 2009, Golding was awarded the Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to minority ethnic people in the South-West of England. In 2010, she became the first black High Sheriff of Bristol, UK, and the only known black High Sheriff of England since the office was established some 1,000 years ago.
Born in Winston Salem,
Colleen Williams
is a journalist and news anchor in Los Angeles and also a correspondent with NBC News and MSNBC. Williams taught in the Omaha Public School system for a few years before starting her news career with WOWT in Omaha. Williams is one of the most recognized anchors in the Los Angeles area today, and is remembered for her high-profile, daily coverage of the O. J. Simpson trial.
These women, along with countless others from Winston Salem, help to inspire us and continue to make our beautiful city great.
Do you have any fierce female stories or women that inspire you? Send them our way. Here's to strong women. May we know them, may we be them, may we support them.
