Parshas Shekalim / Mevorchim Adar
February 9-10, 2018
Shalom and hello everyone! I hope you are doing well.

MEVORCHIM ADAR!

Rosh Chodesh Adar is next Friday, February 16, 2018. Therefore, this shabbos is “mevorchim Adar,” we bless the new Jewish month of Adar, 5778 - and this is very good news!

The Jewish People enjoy “good mazel” in this month, the start of a tekufah, epoch, of wondrous miracles and good tidings - for every Jew. It is an auspicious time for our nation and an advantageous time to pray intently and study diligently, for we are guaranteed much success.

Join us this shabbos for special tefilos in honor of shabbos mevorchim as we sing and daven together as a kehillah.
Did you know there is an interesting discussion in the poskim regarding the talmudic axiom, “M’shenichnas adar marbim b’simcha,” We increase our joy in the month of adar.

Although the shulchan aruch records the inverse regarding the month of Av (we decrease joy) there is no mention of this in respect to adar. It is “merely” mentioned in the achronim, late period halachists, and also quoted in the mishna berura. We will talk about this interesting omission in shul - would love to hear your ideas too!

Don’t forget to read the Purim Bash poster below! Prepare yourself for purim party like no other! Comedians, clowns, raffles, contests, gramin singing, fleishig seudah fit for a king, and more!

HATZOLOH SHABBOS
This shabbos is dedicated to the wonderful work of our local West Side Hatzoloh volunteer members and their supportive families.

Join us this mevorchim adar as we salute their brave and selfless work. To that end, I’ve invited one of our popular Hatzoloh members to address us this shabbos morning with words of Torah and appreciation.
SOL ROSENKRANZ TURNS 100!
Ohav Sholom is busy preparing a centennial bash for one of our most iconic and beloved members - Sol Rosenkranz!

Join us this upcoming shabbos parshas zachor (February 24 - 9 Adar) for a full white glove luncheon seudah in honor of Sol’s amazing milestone - and celebrate a life well lived by a tzaddik in middos and kindness. Of course, Sol and his family will join us for this historic gathering!

Would you like to add your name to our luncheon sponsors? Join other member families in expressing their admiration of this living treasure. Call or email me directly to participate in this once in a lifetime event.

KIDDUSH SPONSOR
We thank our generous super gala hot kiddush sponsor this shabbos, Steve Seratzki, esq. , in celebration of his newest grandchild born in Israel!

Ohav Sholom extends a hearty mazel tov to Zeidy Steve and his children, Aaron and Zahavah , along with big sister, Shaina

May the newest arrival to the Seratzki family, Tehila Miriam , provide much yiddishe nachas for 120 happy and healthy years! Amen.

Have a wonderful shabbos,

See you in shul!

SEND MISHLOACH MANOT THROUGH OHAV SHOLOM
Once again, Ohav Sholom will run its Mishloach Manot program to provide you with the opportunity to send a Purim gift basket or a Purim card to your friends in the congregation. This program, while helping our members fulfill the mitzvah of Mishloach Manot, also raises much needed funds for our various shul programs. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the shul’s charity fund, to help each of us fulfill the mitzvah of Matanot L’Evyonim. Additionally, the program will allow you to send Mishloach Manot to Israeli soldiers overseas.

You should have received your personalized log-in by mail/email. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the shul office - (212)8775-5850.
