News from Koinonia

The staff of Koinonia Retreat Center express deep thanks for the retreat ministry of Pastor Sally Johnson. Sally is one of Koinonia’s “frequent flyers” – having hosted more retreats than any other HAUMC leader. Countless guests have felt the warm embrace of a cozy cabin, the Big Woods forest, Lake Sylvia’s sparkling waters and Koinonia’s legendary cuisine because of Sally’s work. May God always bless and keep her.
Please pray for this week’s guests who are attending the Lake Sylvia Flute Camp.
Making Sense of the Bible: New Bible Study with Pastor Judy Zabel

June 10, 1pm in the Longfellow Room
This is an organizing meeting for a NEW Bible Discussion Group using the book, Making Sense of the Bible: Rediscovering the Power of Scripture Today, by Adam Hamilton. We'll decide if we will continue to meet on Sunday afternoons or at another time. This is a great class for skeptics and the curious because this group will focus on ways to reexamine some of the most controversial teachings in the Bible. Where did the Bible come from? Is it relevant for today's world? What is the nature of Scripture? This class is not designed to indoctrinate, but rather to open up discussion. Feel free to invite your friends.
Pub Theology: Spirited Conversation, Spiritual Matters
This drop-in group of Hennepin members and friends age 21+ gathers monthly to discuss faith, life, stress, family, and so on with a tasty beverage. Invite a friend to join you, and learn more at haumc.org/pubtheology.

Volunteers Needed to develop NEW Ministry in Sierra, Leone

You would be joining 5 team members who have committed to building this new ministry. At first, the ministry will focus on education, nutrition, and sanitation. We'll offer individuals a chance to sponsor kids to go to school, gather school supplies to ship to them, and collect beans to supplement the rice mixture to be sent from Feed My Starving Children. We need help organizing and promoting the projects, and also help educating the HAUMC community about the needs in Baiwalla. Intrigued? Contact Ann Carlson at 763-464-6850 or  carlsonaj99@gmail.com.
Share Our Reconciling Mission at PRIDE

Twin Cities PRIDE is June 23 & 24 . MN Reconciling Congregations will have a booth in Loring Park, and we will participate in the parade on Sunday. We invite you to help share our mission with PRIDE.
The booth will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday with take down at 6 p.m. We need volunteers to sign up to staff the booth. To sign up for a shift, tap or click ttsu.me/tm5y2p . (Most shifts are two hours long.) You will receive a confirmation email when you sign-up as well as another closer to PRIDE that will have more detailed information.

You may ask, “Why should I work in the Reconciling booth?” Here is what a volunteer said after working in the booth last year:

One of the comments I heard from the visitors to our booth was, "We didn't know the church cared or supported us." That comment made me sad to think they previously didn't KNOW the church cared about them, yet made me glad to know that we were there for an important reason--to let them know the church DOES care.

Please sign-up to help staff the booth this year. We want visitors to PRIDE to know that there are churches that care about them!
Nancy Glades and Judy Jerde are coordinating the booth this year. Please let us know if you have questions. We're looking forward to a great PRIDE celebration!
Thanks for your help!

Encourage their faith journey, tell them your camp stories, share why you're part of Hennepin, or just say hi!
