Free Lunch at the Concord Library

The Contra Costa County Library and the Mt. Diablo Unified School District have partnered to serve summer meals at the Concord Library for Summer 2016 in an effort to prevent a nutrition gap during the summer months. Many children face nutrient deficiencies when school closes for the summer break. These lunches are free and open to participants ages 1-18.

The Lunch at the Library program is part of a statewide collaboration between the California Library Association (CLA) and the California Summer Meal Coalition to unite libraries and summer meal providers and keep kids healthy and engaged when school is out.

This is the second year for Lunch at the Library at the Concord Library and they are happy to report that the program has been very successful.  Kimberli Buckley, Senior Community Library Manager for the Concord Library piloted the first Lunch at the Library program in Contra Costa County at the Pittsburg Library in 2014. She talks about Lunch at the Library as being a very moving experience, "I've seen the difference this program can make in children's lives. I saw a child almost in tears thanking the library staff for his summer lunch. It was a very touching moment and proves that the summer lunch program is an incredible way for the library to reach out to the children and teens in the community."

In addition to lunch, the Concord Library will offer a variety of free programs including: board games, arts and crafts, musical performances, Legos, movies, and more. For specific information on the program available at each location, please click here and select the Concord Library.
