NEW VIDEO!
Leaders of Leaders (LOL) Program at REACH Ashland Youth Center

We are excited to share with you this powerful video of generative somatics' work with the amazing participants of the LOL program at REACH Ashland Youth Center.

"I would say these are the training wheels, and when I'm out there I don't have the training wheels on, but can still feel it." ~ MaryAlyssa Rodriguez, LOL Participant

Our generative somatics teaching team brought somatic training wheels to the LOL group, to help increase their connection, coordination, and effectiveness as a team leading the Center's work. Their willingness to step into the unknown and their commitment to developing their leadership, their team, and each other was incredibly inspiring to everyone on the project.
Somatics & Trauma New York - Year Two!

In August we launched our second year offering the Somatics & Trauma course in NYC. The community-based healers and social justice organizers participating in the course come from throughout the city, as well as Philadelphia, Boston, DC, Atlanta, Durham, Youngstown, Portland, the UK, and Jordan. In session one, participants generated personal and movement commitments and were introduced to the range of practices within the generative somatics methodology including standing practices, jo kata, seated mediation, and bodywork - all within a framework of healing trauma and transforming systems of oppression. Senior students are now beginning to work with practice clients from social and environmental justice organizing groups where they live. Led this year by gs Teachers Lisa Thomas-Adeyemo and Liu Hoi-Man and assistants: Alta Starr, Lorelei Williams, Morgan Bassichis, and RJ Maccani, the course is again offered out of the Alwan for the Arts, an essential Arab and South Asian cultural center located in lower Manhattan.

By the end of session one, both the new and senior students were already deep into practice and their commitments. Collectively our attention was also directed outwards to the black and Palestinian freedom struggles facing escalated state violence in Ferguson and Gaza. We ended the weekend powerfully with an announcement from participant Adaku Utah, organizing a delegation of black healthcare providers and healers as part of the Black Life Matters Ride to Ferguson.

generative somatics' work offers the possibility of making a far-reaching and long-lasting impact on movement culture. Our Somatics & Trauma program helps to build resilience and leadership to transform trauma and oppression for people and communties.
