Here in boloco world, we went along for seventeen years blissfully rolling globally inspired burritos and bowls, often topped with our scratch-made guacamole. We never worried about where the next avocado was going to come from... but then, global warming happened in a big way. Avocados got expensive and, well, we've had to react in a really, really big way.
We're here to say: guacapocalypse is happening.
We never thought this day would come, but alas, it is here. Even the big guys (ahem... Chipdoba) are in trouble. We tried our best to source enough avocados at a reasonable price. We even tried to convince our CFO (a.k.a. dreamwrecker) that we had to go to Central America to find them ourselves, but that definitely wasn't in the budget.
We'll spare you all the corporate talk, but basically we can't compete.
We are sorry to tell you that we are
no longer able to offer guacamole, effective immediately.
Based on the avocado analysts' projections, it will be some time before we will be able to get our hands on some avocados, but we hope we'll be able to begin offering guacamole again before next April 1 (fingers crossed!) and we hope you understand (fingers super crossed!).
Thanks from your friends at boloco :)
P.S. If you made it this far, you'll realize that YES, this is our annual April Fool's joke. All is fair in love and burritos, our avocado supply is safe (for now, anyway), and we are totally still in the guacamole game. We like guac, we like you (yes you!), and we really like you two together. So, come into any boloco today (4/1/14) and say "guacapocalypse" to the cashier. What's in it for you? $1 chips and guac OR free guac in your burrito or on your bowl.
P.P.S. If you tweet or Instagram a photo of your guac, tweet us at @boloco, tag us on Instagram @bolocogram, and use #guacapocalypse.
P.P.P.S. Sorry, no app, online, or kiosk purchases. You'll need to talk to a real, live human and say "guacapocalypse" to get the guac deal. One day, technology will catch up with our dreams (we're dreaming big).
