iSpi - November 2, 2017

The 4th South Shore Half Marathon and 5K will be taking place on Sunday, November 5. Runners will be leaving Norwell High School between 7:30 and 8 am, and will be finishing on Dover Street near the post office no later than 11:30 am. The post-race party will be in the parking lot at McGreal’s Tavern. Race organizers will be providing barricades for both church parking lots so that race staff, spectators and runners will know that our parking lots are for FPN-ers only. There will be temporary road closures along much of River Street and connecting streets in Norwell.  Please plan alternate routes and extra travel time; consider carpooling if possible. Cars will be allowed up River Street only when it’s safe for the runners, and at the discretion of the police officers working along the route.  Please click here for more information on the race. Also, Daylight Savings Time ends on November 5, so remember to “fall back” and set your clocks back one hour!

Sermon: How Grows Our Garden?
Our third UU principle asks us to accept one another and encourage each other in spiritual growth. How can we do this if our own roots are dry and in need of care? Do we need to be growing luxuriantly ourselves before we help another, or will our growth also encourage others? Join us on Sunday for more questions.

Please mark your calendars for Tuesday, November 7 at 7 pm for a meeting in the Fogg Parlor. We want to hear what you think about Stewardship, Growth and the intersection of the two here at First Parish of Norwell. Stewardship is sharing our individual time, talent and treasure with the church to ensure that we and others can enjoy the benefits of First Parish now and long into the future. Please join us to listen, share and think.

Those interested in a Support Group for Caregivers, please come to the first meeting Wednesday, November 8 at 7 pm in the Fogg Parlor. Questions? Ask Rev. Lise.

The Holiday Fair will be Saturday, November 18, from 9:00 am– 2:30 pm. Dave Horton will very nicely pick up heavy items with his truck on Sunday, November 5. Call him to make arrangements- 781.829.0123 or 781.424.4002. We will also need you to bake, make handcrafts, clean out your closets and bring your clean, good toys, books/CDs and household treasures to the church the week before. Thank you to Diane Koury for chairing the jewelry table. See Bev Gardner for ideas on gift baskets you could make. Marcia Babcock and Betsey Drollett need some craft lovers to assist them with the aim of taking over next year as chairs of the handcraft table. Joan Nahigian will chair the artists' table – featuring work by First Parish artists and friends. Grandma’s Attic needs help during the week for set-up & on Saturday. To volunteer, contact or see Peg Kitchenham or any of the table chairs.

The next Men’s Potluck will be hosted by Jim Miller on Sunday, November 19 in the Parish Hall. Plan to gather at 4 pm for appetizers as the Patriots kickoff against the Raiders at 4:25. Dinner will be served about half time. Jim will accept help in the kitchen- work with a master!

You are invited to join our 3-day-only Christmas Carolers Choir! The commitment is only 3 days: rehearsals after Coffee Hour (11:30-12:00 on the first 2 Sundays of December ( December 3 and 10), and at 9:15 before church on December 17, which is the morning we will perform our carols for our multigenerational Christmas service. Please speak to Gingy Grimes, Music Director or Marie Miller, Music Committee Chair, if you are interested in participating in this festive Christmas Carolers Choir.
