To compete for the Miss UNCF (United Negro College Fund) crown, contestants must be active members of the Pre-Alumni Council, and must raise a minimum of $1000 which is sent directly to the UNCF for scholarships. The individual who raises the most money is crowned Oakwood's Miss UNCF.

Ms. Calhoun will join the queens of the other UNCF member institutions at the annual conference organized by the National Alumni and National Pre-Alumni Council of the UNCF. The Miss UNCF Coronation Pageant was created in 1957.

Najma knew on her first mission trip at the age of 14 that her purpose in life would be serving others. She has fed the homeless and taught children from the streets of Washington, D.C., San Antonio, Texas, and Jacksonville, Florida, and on an Indian reservation in Holbrook, Arizona, San Antonio, Texas, and Jacksonville, Florida. She has also traveled to Brazil, Panama and Kenya, helping build schools and churches, ministering to adults, and teaching the children in poverty stricken places.

Her passion to help others fuels her labors and has now propelled her educational and career choices. She will be, by the grace of God, a 2018 graduate of Oakwood University. Najma is currently a junior majoring in Social Work with a 3.33 GPA.

Najma is the author of daily inspirational devotions for her family and friends. Her hobbies include: reading inspirational books, cooking, travelling and spending time with family and friends. Her goals include completing an internship with the Joyce Meyer Ministries; becoming a social worker; receiving a Master's Degree and a Doctoral Degree. Her dream is to build schools in other countries for the low income children. No matter what, Najma is going to continue to do the work of God no matter where it takes her.

This innovative, annual mini-conference featured some of the brightest theologians of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, several of them Oakwood University alumni.
