Healthy Campus 2020 Plans Fall Semester Activities

With the goal of making Oakwood University the "healthiest campus in America," the Healthy Campus 2020 office has planned a variety of fun and physical activities for the Fall semester. These activities are designed to help participants understand laws of health outlined in the acronym STANDOUT (sunlight, temperance, adequate rest, nutrition, drink water, outdoors, use physical activity, and trust in God).

In August, a series of health fairs have been scheduled, where students and employees can get a variety of health screenings. Students are pictured here participating in a step fitness test. Screening results are included in each individual's  "health transcript." Click the graphic below to see the video coverage of the student health fair.

On September 8, emphasizing temperance and adequate rest, a Back to School Coloring Contest is scheduled in Blake Center. A few days later,  "Fruits and Veggies Day" will focus on the principle of Nutrition. Kyna Sterling, a certified fitness instructor and adjunct instructor at Oakwood, will conduct an activity on September 24, called "Move'n on the Lawn," to draw attention to sunlight, outdoors, and use of physical activity.

All of the eight STANDOUT health principles will be emphasized during Healthy Campus 2020 Week, September 25 to October 1.

Oakwood - A Place Where Dreams Can Grow

Oakwood is not only a place with a rich past and an accomplished present, but a bright future as well. Being prepared for society's needs and challenges has always been the foundation of education. At Oakwood, the "future focus" is one of the cornerstones of our educational practices.

Whether our students are learning in the classroom for their intended career, or bowing their heads in worship, the focus will always be the future.

A growing enrollment, competitively-priced tuition, a lifelong "family" of relationships, a dedicated alumni, a highly-accomplished faculty, a caring and dedicated staff and a committed Board of Trustees, combine to make Oakwood a compelling place to study and an attractive, safe place where dreams can grow.

We want to thank the staff of the Child Development Laboratory in the Cooper Science Complex) and the Oakwood Adventist Academy, and the parents of our younger models in this year's academic calendar, which is available online

Picture of the Week

To celebrate the rare total solar eclipse on August 21, the School of Arts and Sciences and Enrollment Management engaged the K-16 student body (Oakwood University, Academy and Elementary schools), who gathered on the soccer field between 12:30 and 2:00 p.m., to view the eclipse. This was the first time i n 38 years that a total solar eclipse occurred in the contiguous United States.  The path of totality was very close to North Alabama and we experienced 97% coverage. E clipse glasses, ice cream and water were provided for all . Click here or the graphic below to see a short video.
