Color Run/Yearbook Distribution

To end the school year, Oakwood University's Healthy Campus 2020 and Student Activities Department sponsored a year-end Color Run on April 27. Runners in white t-shirts started on Oakwood Road near the Home Depot Pavilion, and were doused with non-toxic color powder at every kilometer around the campus.

The Color Run is five-kilometer, un-timed event in which hundreds of participants, or "Color Runners," are doused from head to tow in different colors at each kilometer. The only rule is to have fun along the way, while enjoying fresh air and exercise.

After the Color Run, the United Student Movement distributed the Acorn yearbook to students. Iced tea, courtesy of community partner Piper and Leaf Artisan Tea Co., was served at the Finish Festival. The evening concluded with an outdoor movie.

OUPD Sergeant Commended

Oakwood University Police Department Sgt. Maurice Staples was recently commended by President Leslie Pollard and Oakwood Administrators, for his expert investigative skills. He said it was an honor to help protect the Oakwood campus.
Alumni News

This young lady, and hundreds of other Oakwood students, enjoyed pancakes and hashbrowns, courtesy of the Oakwood University Alumni Association on April 29.

Most alumni remember the stress and burning the "midnight oil" studying for final exams. This past Saturday night, many, if not all, of Oakwood's students were getting in that last-minute studying for their finals, scheduled for April 30-May 3. For the second consecutive year, the Oakwood University Alumni Association (OUAA) assisted the students with studying in a unique way.

Dr. Laura Williams Davis, '83, Oakwood University Board Member, and Emile Parker, '83, OUAA regional vice president, again helped implement "Midnight Pancakes on the Lawn" to give students a bit of an energy boost by hosting a "late night pancake bash." Laura, Emile, local alumni, and Oakwood staff rolled up their sleeves, cracked open the pancake mix, and fried up some hash browns, all for Oakwood students to enjoy.

Chef hats, aprons and gloves were distributed to the several Oakwood staff members, including President Pollard, for cooking and serving the late night meal. The students stood in line front of Carter Hall, and waited with enthusiasm to get a short or long stack of pancakes with all the trimmings (strawberries, bananas, chocolate chips, almonds, blueberries, whipped cream), and hash browns. One student said, "I am more prepared now, since I can focus on my studies and not on my stomach. Thanks, Oakwood Alumni."

Picture of the Week

Healthy Campus 2020 recently collaborated with Therapy Partners, Inc.®, a program  comprised of certified owner-and-pet teams who work as a therapeutic tool for  organizations in the community, to bring several pets to the campus of Oakwood  University. Interactions with these therapy animals were designed to benefit students by  reducing "last week of school" stress and anxiety.
