Final preparations are being made for the inaugural convening of the Reaves Warren Lectureship, scheduled to take place on Friday, April 14, 2017, during Alumni Homecoming Weekend, at the Moseley Complex on the campus of Oakwood University.

The Lectureship is inspired by the lasting influence of Calvin E. Moseley, the first African-American teacher of preaching at Oakwood beginning in 1934, and his immediate successor Clarence T. Richards, in 1951.

Presentations on theory and practice of biblical preaching will be made by speakers who are deemed to be:
  1. academically prepared;
  2. familiar with homiletic theory;
  3. experienced in practical pulpit proclamation; and
  4. reflective of a personal ethos that encourages Christian principles.
The lectureship rallying motto is: "Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage - with great patience and careful instruction..." 2 Timothy 4:2-5 (NIV).

The families of Benjamin F. Reaves and Mervyn A. Warren are founding this preaching lectureship, providing the initial endowment, and inviting all who appreciate the preaching education program at Oakwood University to contribute to its life and growth. Financial contributions may be made  online at www.ougiving.com, or mailed to:

During the inaugural "Festival of Voices" this past Sundy, at the historic Glenwood Cemetery in Huntsville, Dr. Victoria Joiner, assistant professor of Communication (left), portrayed Anna Knight. She and other figures in Huntsville's history "came to life" as storytellers, describing their lives and contributions to early Huntsville. I am happy to share with you that Oakwood Farms is on schedule. When you arrive on campus for Alumni Homecoming Weekend, on the east side of the main entrance, you will see acres of trees that have been planted by farm manager Artis Sidney and his staff. Mr. Sidney brings to our operation the skill sets of both a farmer and grocer. Having successfully operated Huntsville's "Garden Cove" for more than 30 years, God has brought him full circle back to Oakwood, where he began his career as the director of the Grounds  Department in the 1980s.
