december 7-8, 2013
In this class Kate will teaching you how to create a multi-layered fabric collage (16" x 16") working with fabric, gesso, plaster and paper. After assembling the collage she will demonstrate how to paint an image; it could be a figure or portrait with some flower detail. Students can use image transfers to create a base for the painting. She also will have available a face template drawing that could be used for the paintings so the class will focus more on the painting methods rather than drawing. It's a class for all levels since there will be several methods demonstrated to achieve a beautiful image to grace your collage.
Although most ALL supplies
will be provided (and the list is quite long
), it does make your pieces unique by bringing the following items.
Students should bring:
- Assorted Fabrics and laces (finished piece will measure approximately 16x16 and have several layers of fabric. recommended to bring vintage napkins or neutral colors like off whites, cream, beiges, browns and including patterned fabrics if desired.) We will also have fabrics and laces available for purchase at the studio if you would rather purchase on site.
- images for image transfer (although images for finished piece is provided it is fun just to pick a couple of your favorite images to possibly add to your finished piece or just practice on. Ink jet printer images work just fine)
absolutely no drawing or painting skills needed.
List of shared supplies included in your class fee:
Venetian plaster/joint compound, gesso, Daniel smith watercolors, Adirondack re-inkers, open acrylic paint, PanPastels, acrylic grounds and mediums, watercolor papers, & tools/brushes/knives.
