lemonade... good news from newport november 2017 #100 |
Welcome to the 100th issue of lemonade!
Ninety-nine months ago, I squeezed the first pitcher of lemonade based on my own need for good news.
Back in 2008, it felt like the bleakest national climate ever. It was against this economic "black"-drop, that I was compelled to start my own business in order to continue living in Newport, rather than return to NYC and resume my career in the entertainment industry.
As my own focus was to stay local, it was the first place I started looking for good news. Happily, this dovetailed with my fledgling business mission statement to assist local small businesses with creative marketing solutions. And so, lemonade #1 was poured and Windlass Creative was launched!
I never imagined that this pithy little newsletter would have such a long shelf life!
To be honest, some months I don't feel so cheery and it is often hard to make time for the picking, squeezing and pouring. I thought to close up the lemonade
stand and bid you all good luck and godspeed in this 100th issue... but sadly 8+ years on and we need good news more than ever.
So I will keep pouring by way of THANKS to my loyal
lemon-heads for staying tuned to my totally opinionated p.o.v. re: good news, musical preferences, worthwhile causes and cultural offerings. The format may change in the months ahead, but I'll keep squeezing if you'd like to keep drinking.
Until #101... Happy Thanksgiving! SallyAnne_/)

Wow! What a line up the
Narrows Center for the Arts this month starting with
Tom Rush on
 The
Greenwich Odeum has some interesting offerings this month-- I recently checked out the venue, a nicely restored 400+ seat theatre with (based only on my eves-dropping at a sound check ;-) nice warm acoustics that one would expect from a 1926 Vaudeville venue. Still finding their audience(s), the programming is widely varied. Among November's offerings of interest to me are
Eddie from Ohio on 11/3,
Badfinger, starring Joey Molland on 11/9,
Aztec Two Step on 11/18,
Darlene Love on 11/19 and a screening of
The Last Waltz on 11/21, just in time for Thanksgiving!

I love the Newport Historical Society! This organization consistently offers unique and informative programs of interest to Newporters and tourists alike. I have especially enjoyed learning about our City on their walking tours. On the schedule this month are
Rogues & Scoundrels (Fridays at 10:30am),
Discover Colonial Newport (Saturdays 10:30am),
Golden to Gilded (Sundays, 10:30am) and The
Road to Independence (Tuesdays at 10:30am).
Holiday Lantern Tours start on 11/24 at 4pm and run through 12/30. Please check the
NHS website for complete schedule of times, dates and meet-up details for all walking tours. Also of note is a lecture entitled
A Family and A Fortune by Rebecca Fraser, author of
The Mayflower, on 11/8.
