LA FIESTA CHECK PRESENTATION TO HP ARTS

La Fiesta de la Seis Banderas presented HP Arts with a generous donation in the amount of $61,133, which will be used to fund HPISD arts programs, technology and a special project of Arts Integration in the classroom at MIS/HPMS. HP Arts appreciates La Fiesta's continued partnership and support as it begins its 30th year of service in HPISD.

HPHS MARCHING BAND

HP Arts, in conjunction with a special La Fiesta grant, purchased new instruments for the Highland Park High School Marching Band. The HPHS Band students received their new instruments this fall and are enjoying new French Horns, mellophones; which are French horns for marching, Euphoniums and Marching Euphoniums. The new instruments enabled the band to replace old instruments with beautiful, state-of-art marching instruments. Reagan Brumley, Director of Instrumental Music, HPISD says, "The students are so proud of their new instruments and treat them with great respect, and it has made a very positive difference in how the band sounds. We are so very grateful for the partnership we enjoy with HP Arts and La Fiesta."

The HPHS Band received a first division rating at UIL Region 20-5A Marching on October 13 at Kincaid Stadium. HP Arts is proud to support the HPHS award winning Band.

HP ARTS SUPPORTS WINNING HPHS DEBATE TEAM

Coach Whisenhunt is enthusiastic about his teams success this year and he already has a team which qualified for the Tournament of Champions this year. At the Grapevine Invitational the team of Michael Cerny and Ethan Muse advanced to semi finals, placing 3rd overall and earning their first bid for the Tournament of Champions. The next weekend the debate team competed at the Greenhill Invitational. Out of a field of 117 teams, the team of Michael Cerny and Ethan Muse placed 15th overall. This finish was high enough to secure their invitation to the Tournament of Champions hosted at the end of the season.

ETHAN MUSE AND MICHAEL CERNY RECEIVED MULTIPLE AWARDS
HPHS Scots spoke up with a big win at the St. Mark's debate competition. Micheal Cerny and Ethan Muse competed against 60 elite teams in the St. Mark's Heart of Texas Invitational on Oct. 15. The HP duo of Carney and Muse earned third-place overall, which is the best finish at this competition for HP in more than a decade. The team then traveled to the Meadows Invitational in Las Vegas, Nevada where Cerny and Muse placed 5th overall and Cerny was awarded fourth overall speaker.

HPHS Debate also has several active and winning novice teams, which are competing at local tournaments. Congratulations to HPHS Debate team for an impressive season thus far and the best of luck to them as they continue to compete in tournaments.

CULTURE LEARNING THROUGH ZUMBA

Approximately 550 sixth graders were exposed to dance traditions in their Social Studies class.   A certified Zumba Dance teacher instructed the kids over several class periods.  This included such dance forms as Salsa and Reggae.  As part of their sixth grade curriculum, they realized how dance traditions were introduced to different cultures which influenced societies. Thank you to Kathy Wofford for bringing the idea to her class last year. This year the entire grade participated in this cultural experience.
