Palm Sunday
Isaiah 50:4-9a * Psalm 31:9-16 * Philippians 2:5-11 * Mark 14:1—15:47
This week, the center of the church's year, is one of striking contrasts: Jesus rides into Jerusalem surrounded by shouts of glory, only to be left alone to die on the cross, abandoned by even his closest friends. Mark's gospel presents Jesus in his complete human vulnerability: agitated, grieved, scared, forsaken. Though we lament Christ's suffering and all human suffering, we also expect God's salvation: in the wine and bread, Jesus promises that his death will mark a new covenant with all people. We enter this holy week thirsty for the completion of God's astonishing work.

Time & Change Results
As we bask in the fresh light of Daylight Savings Time, we're also warmed by the glow of your generous spirits. Our "Time & Change" fundraiser, cleverly synced with the time change, has once again shown the incredible impact we can make together.
This year, your spare change and heartfelt contributions have amounted to a beautiful symphony of support.
With 633 pennies, 260 nickels, 491 dimes, 280 quarters, and even a solitary dollar coin and bill, we've turned small change into significant change amounting for a total of $143.43! This collective effort ensures our continued sponsorship of Souaïbou, our Compassion International student from Burkina Faso, whom we've had the privilege to support since January 6, 2014.
| | |
|
As Souaïbou celebrates his 21st birthday this June, it's a joy to reflect on the journey we've shared with him. Our commitment of $43 per month has been a beacon of hope, enabling Souaïbou to pursue education and opportunities that once seemed beyond reach. In Burkina Faso, your contributions translate into a lifeline of educational resources, healthcare, and the promise of a brighter future.
Our generosity embodies the spirit of our church—faithful, authentic, and boundlessly compassionate. It's a testament to the power of collective action and the profound difference we can make in one person's life, even from halfway across the globe.
Thank you for your support and for being a beacon of change in Souaïbou's life. Let's continue to walk in faith and kindness, knowing that even the smallest act of love can echo into eternity.

A Simple Explanation of...
Over the weeks of Lent, Pastor Aaron has led an Adult Educational Series that aims to help answer questions on various Christian topics through presentation, booklets, videos, and scriptural guidance.
So far we have covered HEAVEN & HELL, ANGELS, BAPTISM, CHRISTIAN SYMBOLS and THE CHURCH YEAR. This week we are discussing the Christian Denominations.
In today’s world, there are more than four thousand religions. And within Christianity itself, there are countless denominations. These numbers can cause many Christians to wonder what those differences are that make each denomination unique and how we, as Lutherans, can respond to those differences, especially when it comes to beliefs about salvation, the Sacraments, the role of Christ, and even sources of doctrine.
This easy-to-use, compact booklet features brief summaries of seventeen Christian denominations, summaries that will provide readers with a better understanding of each denomination’s differences, their history, source of doctrine, and beliefs about Jesus Christ and the Sacraments.
Includes summaries of: The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod; Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS); Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA); The Roman Catholic Church; Eastern Orthodox Churches; Presbyterian Churches; Christian Reformed Church; The Anglican/Episcopal Churches; Methodist Churches; The Salvation Army; Church of the Nazarene; Baptist Churches; Mennonite Churches; Seventh-Day Adventist Church; United Church of Christ; Pentecostal Churches; and Evangelical Free Church.

A Note About the Month of April
Dear Advent Family,
God is good! All the time! And all the time God is good!
As I approach my 19th year in ministry, I've been blessed to serve as your pastor for nearly a decade. This April, with the gracious support of our Church Council, I will be taking the month of April as a time of sabbatical rest and renewal.
I'm deeply grateful to the Rev. Monte Stevens (Retired), who will step in to lead our worship services and Adult Sunday School while also handling any other needed worship services and emergencies. I am also grateful to Pastor Ralph Wolfe of Clinton Heights Lutheran Church, who will oversee our weekly Wednesday worship services at the Forum. Their collegiality allows me this precious opportunity for reflection and rejuvenation.
During this period, I'll be stepping away completely to embrace this restorative time, and won't be reachable. If you are in need of pastoral assistance of any kind feel free to contact the Church Office at 614-451-3639 and you will be put in touch with Pastor Stevens. I'm thankful for your understanding, and eagerly anticipate returning with fresh energy and inspiration. Your support and prayers mean the world to me.
With heartfelt thanks,
Pastor Aaron Layne

Thank You
The daughters of Jane Vollrath would like to express their gratitude for all the kindness shown to their mother during her last months. The prayers, the cards and the visits were so much appreciated by Jane. She was especially touched by the drawings from the youngest members of the church. Jane was truly blessed to have such a caring church family. Thank you and may God bless each and every one of you.
