California tops state support of walking and biking
Explore Cupertino with a Friday morning pop-up bike ride
Every Friday morning for the past 6 weeks, a dozen Cupertino residents meet at Kennedy Middle School for a 2-hour bike ride around Cupertino and surrounding areas. This pop-up bike ride was started by our own WBC founder Larry Dean, and several WBC members join the ride each week.

The inaugural ride was on May 16th, 2020. We went from Kennedy Middle School to Main Street Cupertino and back again on a 9.8 mile ride through major Cupertino landmarks. It was an easy ride on mostly flat terrain – a great option for families with kids.
We rode through several Cupertino neighborhoods, no fewer than 7 city parks, and checked out the newly improved McClellan Road separated bike lanes. On the way out, we rode down McClellan past CA85, then dipped down to Jollyman
Park, then back up on surface streets to Rodrigues and the Cupertino Library.
We then kept going on Rodrigues and La Mar to Creekside Park before heading up Finch past Cupertino High to take a well-deserved break at Main Street. Read more ...

Improve your bike skills at any age
For Adults and Youth
Cupertino has forged a new partnership with an educator called Bicycle Solutions who provides private lessons (and youth group lessons) to people of all ages, from learning to ride to improving bike handling skills to learning the rules of the road. Now is a great time to learn—and get exercise while safely distancing outdoors! Instructors are available in Cupertino and nearby cities. These programs will comply with all County guidelines regarding safe distancing.

The City of Cupertino has partnered with two great bike education providers to bring you opportunities this summer. You and your children can improve your skills, learn how to bike and learn how to do it safely on our roads and trails.

For Middle School Students
The City of Cupertino through Safe Routes to School is offering a Middle School Bike Skills Summer Camp to prepare rising 6th, 7th, and 8th graders for biking to middle school and beyond. Students will learn how to be confident riders by learning the rules of the road, practicing bike handling skills, and participating in a group ride. This program will comply with all County guidelines regarding safe distancing.

The Middle Schools Bike Skills program is run by Wheel Kids , a noted local bike education provider. The sessions include an evening, one-hour online interactive bike class, followed by an on-bike, in-person ½ day camp. The ½ day camp includes practicing bike skills and a group ride, all socially distanced.

You can choose from three separate in-peron camp dates: Saturday, July 19, August 1, or August 23. The online classes for each session are the Wednesday preceding each class.

Trail Review: Hunter's Point Summit Cora Older Trail
By Lawrence Fan, Student Advisor to the WBC Board
To the left, the sun lingered just above the horizon, sending beams of light penetrating through the wild grass. In front lies the entire Silicon Valley, which extends to the bay. Low-flying clouds cover the body of water and reflect a vivid red hue. Towards the right, one can spot the futuristic-looking circular landmark that is the Apple Spaceship campus. Hunter’s Point is a must-go destination for all those who love trails, and is accessible by both bike and foot.
Last week, I biked with my best friend Andrew to Hunter’s Point to kick-back on a Friday evening and enjoy raw nature and the serene views. We started by biking to the parking lot at the mouth of the Cora Older trail on the end of Prospect Road Read more....
