Thereās a creeping, chilling feeling approachingā¦and itās not just Halloween upon usā¦itās the thought of so much candy! With sweets and chocolate looming ahead, there are many ways to dispel the sugar and have a healthy Halloween.
Tricks to Sweet Treats
While the usual choices to hand out to trick-or-treaters are candies and chocolate, try to give healthy options such as sugar-free gum, snack packs of popcorn, trail mix, pretzels, and juice boxes.
There are sugar-free candies to indulge in, and you can trade out processed, sugary treats for natural sugars found in fruits. Or go completely sugar-free with non-edible treats such as stickers, stamps, and glow sticks.
Spooky Strolling
Use trick-or-treating as a means of getting exercise for the whole family. Walk with the kids and see how far youāll go on your bewitching journey through the neighborhood or wherever you trick-or-treat. Practice safety when walking by bringing flashlights, bottles of water, and wearing reflective tape on clothing and costumes.
Hocus Pocus to Less Sweets
While itās nearly impossible to completely avoid sugary treats while trick-or-treating, there are ways to lessen the amount of candy consumed. Have the kids eat a meal beforehand and they may be less tempted to overindulge. Also, using smaller bags while trick-or-treating means less candy to take home.
With these tips, we hope you and your family enjoy a safe, healthy, and magical Halloween! Happy Halloween from your StayWell Familia! Stay spooky!
