New Opportunity for High School Engineering byDesign Students to Earn College Credits

Reston, VA – March 5, 2025 – The International Technology and Engineering Educators Association (ITEEA) is thrilled to announce an exciting new opportunity for high school students enrolled in its Engineering byDesign™ (EbD™) program. Starting in spring 2025, students who achieve a grade of B or higher in any Engineering byDesign course, or who pass the course-specific post-assessment with a minimum score to be determined, will be eligible to receive three transcripted college credits through St. Cloud State University.

This groundbreaking initiative is designed to provide students with a significant start on their college education, recognizing their hard work and dedication in mastering the principles of engineering and technology. The credits earned through this program will be fully transferable, offering students a valuable advantage as they pursue higher education and careers in STEM fields.

Empowering Students for Future Success

Research shows that early college experiences significantly boost students' confidence, with approximately 84% of students feeling more prepared for college after participating in such programs. By offering college credits to high school students, ITEEA and St. Cloud State University are empowering the next generation of engineers and technologists, providing them with the tools and opportunities they need to succeed1.

"We are proud to partner with ITEEA to offer this unique opportunity to high school students," said Kurt Helgeson, Professor of Engineering Technology Education at St. Cloud State University. "By providing transcripted college credits for Engineering byDesign courses, we are helping to bridge the gap between high school and higher education. This initiative not only rewards students for their hard work and achievements but also encourages them to pursue further studies in STEM fields. We believe that early exposure to college-level coursework will inspire confidence and academic success, setting students on a path to a bright future."

"ITEEA is incredibly excited to offer this new opportunity to our Engineering byDesign (EbD) students, and we are so appreciative of our partnership with St. Cloud State University" said Kelly Dooley, ITEEA Executive Director. "These students are attaining critical technology and engineering knowledge and mastering 21st century skills through completion of ITEEA’s EbD courseware, and their achievements deserve to be recognized. By providing them with the opportunity to earn college credits in high school, they can get a head start on their college education while gaining the necessary confidence and skills to excel in their future academic and professional endeavors. This initiative aligns perfectly with ITEEA’s mission to promote technological and engineering literacy for all and position those students interested in STEM careers for success."

A Commitment to Excellence in Education

This new opportunity underscores ITEEA's commitment to excellence in education and its mission to promote technological literacy for all. By partnering with St. Cloud State University, ITEEA is ensuring that students have access to high-quality educational experiences that will set them on a path to success.
