Tuesday, October 27th 8 p.m.
Decades ago some drag queens were doing a bar crawl in our Dupont Circle neighborhood. Drunk, they left one bar and decided to race in their high heels to the next bar on 17th Street. And that is how our great neighborhood tradition was started. And what could be a better time than Halloween for donning one's finest attire and holding our annual High Heel Race?! Now the event is always held on the Tuesday before Halloween.
From a small neighborhood event, the High Heel Race now draws spectators from around the DMV. Spectators come to join in the fun and even MPD officers are having as much fun as the spectators. Our silly neighborhood event has become symbolic of positive cultural changes.
Because of the Pandemic -- the 2020 High Heel Race is cancelled; however
"The Best of the High Heel Retrospective" will livestream on social media platforms.
