It’s wood frog time in Michigan’s Thumb. We hear them clucking when we walk in the woods near ponds and pools that filled up when the snow melts.
Wood frogs are little creatures with a black mask and cream color lines around their faces. Kind of a dull brown color, they spend the winter miraculously frozen in mud. When the weather warms up, wood frogs appear. Soon there are gelatinous eggs sacks and tadpoles.
But it’s their clucking sound, a really loud sound, that is the harbinger of spring in the north woods.
🟢 🟢 Usually when we think of frogs we think of green. Like Kermit the Frog and “it ain’t easy being green.” That kind of green.
Here at Graywood Designs we even sell a yarn that is named Tree Frog. It’s a grassy green that certainly brings the coloring book image of a frog to mind.
Take a look at some of the 🟢🟢 froggy greens that we pulled from our shelves! Maybe one of these will be your choice for a spring hat or a cowl or a scarf or even a sweater.
