Membership Meeting Round Up
|
|
-
DCCA members welcomed Ward 2 Councilmember, Brooke Pinto, to our final membership meeting of the season last Monday. CM Pinto told us about budget highlights including funding for projects previously endorsed by DCCA: the Mass. Ave. Tree Plaza, grants for trash compactors, and a new standalone middle school. In response to questions from members, she asked for us to continue contacting her office about problems on 17th Street and DDOT’s failure to address them; announced the formation of a multiagency task force to address the problem of street racing; and encouraged us to contact at-large council members in support of two bills she has cosponsored, one on amplified noise and another on building codes to protect migratory birds from collisions with windows
-
We also heard from Marcia Bernbaum, representing the DC Public Restrooms citizens group. With the support of DCCA and many others, legislation was passed to fund a pilot program for two standalone public restrooms, and the Mayor’s Public Restrooms Working Group recommended Dupont Circle as a potential site. DCCA voted unanimously in favor of this recommendation - click here to read the resolution.
As is tradition, our membership meetings will pause for summer but we look forward to seeing you in the Fall for in-person meetings, our 100th Anniversary Gala Celebration and more. In the meantime our all volunteer board will continue to work this summer on your behalf and you will continue to receive updates via this bi-monthly eblast to keep you in the know on neighborhood doings!!
