Faculty Highlight: Michael Hansen

Political Science Professor Michael Hansen and UW-Parkside student Sierra Malvitz (along with co-author John Navarro) recently published Assessing law enforcement websites: a comparative analysis exploring types, quantity and quality of information available. Malvitz worked for Hansen as a research assistant and was a URAP winner; her position was funded by the Tommy G. Thompson Center on Professional Leadership. The article concerns a study of government websites in Wisconsin with a particular focus on the lack of transparency on law enforcement websites in comparison to other governmental websites.  Read more here.

Mask Update!

Dear Parkside Community,
Given the steady decline in COVID-19 cases across the state and in our local communities, changes in CDC guidance, and low case counts on campus, the UW-Parkside indoor mask mandate will expire at 11:59 pm on Friday, March 18. The wearing of masks will be optional indoors, except in the Student Health & Counseling Center where they will continue to be required, effective March 19 in line with the beginning of our Spring Break.

We recognize that many of our campus community members may choose to continue wearing masks and we strongly support their choice to do so. It is important for all of us to respect individual decisions as we aren’t always privy to others’ personal or family members’ health issues.

Thanks to a high rate of vaccinations and the commitment of our campus community to following health and safety measures, we have kept our infection rates low, even during the recent surge of the omicron variant. Masks will continue to be available on campus along with testing at Ranger Clinic and vaccines and boosters through the Student Health & Counseling Center.

Thank you for your continued efforts to respect and support one another as we adapt to the impacts of this global pandemic. The University will continue to monitor the situation and we reserve the right to modify COVID protocols in the future based on local conditions.
