August Update
We hope you are having a great summer! Here are some updates for the beginning of the Fall 2024 semester. The Wednesday Weekly is back to a weekly schedule for the semester!

Musician’s life prompts challenge support for UW-Parkside Scholarship | |
|
KENOSHA, WI – When George F. Baumgardt suddenly passed away in February, a community was left reeling. Not only was his loss devastating to his wife, five children and grandchildren, but to hundreds of musicians, singers and churchgoers who played, sang or worshipped under George’s musical direction.
As a tribute to his talent, Spirit of Racine Music Makers, a nonprofit community musical group which George helped to create, and the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, of which George was an alumnus, worked in consultation with the Baumgardt Family to establish the George F. Baumgardt Memorial Music Scholarship to benefit budding musicians at UW-Parkside.
Now, a generous anonymous donor has given a $3,000 matching challenge gift to the scholarship fund, encouraging others in the community to contribute. For every dollar donated to the fund through Dec. 31, 2025 will be matched by the donor, up to $3,000.

UW-Parkside’s Mathis Gallery to Host Faculty Exhibition | |
The University of Wisconsin-Parkside is thrilled to announce the inaugural UW-Parkside Faculty Exhibition from Sept. 4 to Nov. 15, in the Emile H. Mathis Gallery located in the Rita Tallent Picken Regional Center for Arts & Humanities. This exhibition will showcase the talents of UW-Parkside’s art department faculty members Lisa Marie Barber, Trenton Baylor, Tom Berenz, Lindsey Larsen, Dan Martin, and Carey Watters.
The Emile H. Mathis Gallery is open Tuesday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The community is invited to the opening reception on Sept. 18 from 4-6 p.m. for an opportunity to meet the artists and engage with their work. There is also an Artist Talk scheduled for Sept. 18 at 2 p.m. in Bedford Hall. These events are all free and open to the public.

UW-Parkside Foundation Gallery Hosts Keith Nelson: Miscellaneous Jawns Exhibit | |

The University of Wisconsin-Parkside is excited to host the Keith Nelson: Miscellaneous Jawns Exhibit from Sept. 4 – Oct. 4. in the Foundation Gallery, located in the Rita Tallent Picken Regional Center for Arts & Humanities. The Foundation Gallery is open Tuesday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Artist talk will be held on Sept. 18 at 2 p.m. in Bedford Hall, with the reception to follow from 4-6 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.
Nelson uses non-traditional materials and a distinctly sculptural process to expand the language and boundaries of painting by implying that it is not a literal term but a specific mode of creative thought not limited to the brush.

Ranger Welcome Volunteer Opportunities | |

It is hard to believe it is August already and that we will soon be starting the fall 2024 semester! The Ranger Welcome program is set to kick off Sunday, Sept. 1 with Move-in and runs until Friday, Sept. 6. The week is packed with events and resources to welcome new & returning students to campus. We need your help to ensure these programs run smoothly!
Volunteers are needed throughout the week for a variety of tasks including the following:
- Ask Me Tables: Greeting students on the first and second day of classes and helping them find their way to classrooms and answering questions.
- Move-In Help: Greeting and welcoming students and families at the move-in check-in station, checking IDs, and handing out welcome packets.
- Parent/Guest Hospitality Tent: Greeting and mingling with families as they move students into Ranger Hall and Pike River Suites. Handing out swag items such as tote bags, notepads, and pens for parents/guests.
- Kick-Off Speaker: Helping with wayfinding to Main Stage Theatre for our Kick-Off Speaker, Aaron K. Wilson.
- New Student Welcome Party: Helping with distributing t-shirts, snow cones, popcorn, and general crowd control.
- New Student Convocation: Greeting students as they arrive, handing out academic planners and vouchers for the Athletic Open House later that day, seating students, and walking them over to The Commons in Wyllie Hall after the program for the Chancellor’s Picnic.
- Walk Your Schedule: Walking students through the academic buildings to help them find their classrooms prior to the first day of classes.
- Welcome Tables: Taking first-day-of-school photos with cut-out props and handing out fruit cups. These tables are next to the Ask Me Tables in the Rita & Student Center and are also in Ranger Hall & Pike River Suites.
Ask Me Table volunteers will receive a FREE green Ask Me shirt if you do not already have one. If you are volunteering for a different event, you will receive a FREE Ranger Welcome t-shirt (while supplies last). T-shirt pick-up will happen on Thursday, Aug. 29 and Friday, Aug. 30 in Student Engagement & Connection (Student Center L104) from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm. You will also receive additional volunteer instructions on Monday, Aug. 26 regarding your volunteer role, such as where to report and what to expect.

UW-Parkside Selected as Member of Aspen-AASCU Transfer Student Success Intensive 2024-2025 Cohort | |
The University of Wisconsin-Parkside was selected by the Aspen Institute College Excellence Program (Aspen) and the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) to join the latest cohort of the Aspen-AASCU Transfer Student Success Intensive.
UW-Parkside joins its partner Gateway Technical College and 18 other two- and four-year colleges engaged in the third Intensive cohort. Selected from an applicant pool of 97 institutions and three systems from 24 states, the three cohorts collectively represent a total enrollment of over 1.3 million undergraduate students from across the U.S.

UW-Parkside Server Migration and Changes | |

There are changes coming this summer to UW-Parkside servers and applications. This is part of a broader, long-term project to consolidate IT services across the Universities of Wisconsin.
Why the change?
This project aims to consolidate data centers and computing infrastructure to the Hybrid Cloud at UW-Madison to increase efficiency and effectiveness, improve IT disaster recovery and resilience, and significantly reduce cybersecurity risk.
When will this change occur?
In June 2024, we started migrating the data systems and applications from the current environment to the Hybrid Cloud environment hosted at UW-Madison. This transition will continue until the end of the year.
This transition will be a phased approach, where we will be moving data systems and applications individually over the upcoming months.
What do I need to do?
Not everyone will be directly impacted, and you may not be contacted.
When we are preparing to move a data system or application you utilize, you will receive an email with more details about the day of the move, whether you can expect any outages during the move, and or changes you may need to make.
These emails will come from uwsa-harmonyproject@wisconsin.edu. You will not be notified when every data system or application moves, you will only receive notice when your application is moving.

FY 2025 Pay Plan Increase, Effective June 30, 2024
In alignment with the 2023-2025 State of Wisconsin Biennial Budget, the 2% pay plan increase effective June 30, 2024, for fiscal year 2025 will appear in your paycheck of July 25, 2024. Employees eligible for an increase will receive an official notification from UW System HR confirming this change. Additional information regarding UWP Pay Plan Guides may be found at the link below.

New Paid Parental Leave Policy Effective July 1, 2024
The Universities of Wisconsin is implementing a new Paid Parental Leave policy that will provide eligible employees with up to six weeks (240 hours) of paid time off within a 12-month period following a qualifying birth or adoptive event. The new policy is effective July 1, 2024.

Administrative Transformation Program (ATP) Updates | |

Workday Go-Live Revised to 2025
The University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents approved a revised timeline for the Administrative Transformation Program Workday implementation. Go-live is now scheduled for July 2025, revised from July 2024. End-user training will begin in March 2025.
The revision will provide adequate time to prepare for a successful implementation. We will continue to partner with ATP as we get ready for the transition to Workday.
ATP will standardize finance, human resources, and research administration processes, such as payroll and expense reporting, across the UW System. To learn more about Workday and subscribe to the ATP Touchpoints newsletter, visit the ATP website.

What Is ATP?
The Administrative Transformation Program (ATP) is on a mission to rebuild finance, human resources, and research administration systems at every institution within the University of Wisconsin System. The goal is to reduce the complexity of the current administrative environment and refocus valuable staff time on UW’s mission of education, research, and outreach.
To make this vision a reality, we’re working with people across the UW to standardize processes and implement new, best-in-class technology to support these essential functions.
Technology
To standardize business processes and integrate our systems, ATP will implement Workday and Huron Research Suite to replace HRS, SFS, and hundreds of ancillary systems across the UW.
People
ATP's success depends on knowledgeable staff who apply their time, talent, and expertise — both on and off the program team.
Process
Our business process redesign work is based on a tiered governance structure and tested methodology that includes faculty and staff from across the UW System.
