| | UW-Parkside Receives Over $320,000 for Green Infrastructure Project | | |
By: Emily Reed, UW-Parkside Sustainability Coordinator
Funding will support innovative stormwater management system to protect Pike River watershed and create educational opportunities
The University of Wisconsin-Parkside has been awarded a $207,426 grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation's Sustain Our Great Lakes 2024 program. This funding, combined with a $26,395 match from the Parkside Foundation and an $89,000 grant awarded by the Fund for Lake Michigan to the community partner Root-Pike WIN, brings the total project funding to $322,821.
ο»Ώ
The project will implement a regenerative stormwater conveyance (RSC) system on the UW-Parkside campus, the first of six initiatives outlined in the university's Green Infrastructure Concept Plan. This system will feature engineered bioswales with native vegetation designed to capture and infiltrate stormwater runoff from campus parking areas before it reaches the Pike River, a direct tributary to Lake Michigan and currently listed on the EPA's impaired waters list.

Announcement: In-the-Moment Support for Students
As the semester winds down, you may notice some of your students are feeling stressed. If you see a student struggling, remember that in-the-moment support is available through Mantraβs ConnectNow. Students can easily access this support through the Navigate app or directly on our website: Personal Counseling & Support Encouraging students to reach out for help can make a big difference during stressful times. Thank you for supporting student well-being!

Did You Know?
1. Students approved for exam/quiz accommodations should take the exam at the same time or at least the same day as their peers.
2. Students must schedule exams/quizzes in Accommodate 48 hours in advance (excluding Saturday and Sunday).
3. The testing area is never full- if a student reports they cannot schedule for the same day, they waited too long to schedule in Accommodate.
4. Students should obtain the instructorβs permission before scheduling an alternate day or time with SAS.
5. Instructors will get an automated email alert when a student schedules their exams/quizzes. This would be an opportune time to verify if itβs scheduled per your expectations.
6. SAS sends an email reminder with a cover sheet two days prior to the exam date. You donβt have to wait for the reminder to send the exam.
7. If a student misses an exam, itβs up to the instructor to determine when the student will reschedule. The instructor should email sas@uwp.edu and the student with a new day of retake.
