Sustainability Spotlight: UW-Parkside Solar Farm Delivers Strong First-Year Performance
By: Emily Reed, UW-Parkside Sustainability Coordinator
The University of Wisconsin-Parkside's newest solar installation has proven to be a success in its first year of operation. The 2.1-megawatt solar array has reduced campus electrical consumption by approximately 26% since it began operating in December 2023, putting it on track to meet projected returns through utility savings.
Built on a former parking lot on the east side of campus, the installation showcases innovative technology through its bifacial panels mounted on tracking arrays. These dual-sided panels follow the sun's movement throughout the day and capture light reflected from the ground, maximizing energy generation efficiency. The project was funded through the State Building Program as a major investment in sustainable infrastructure.

UW-Parkside Expands Access and Opportunity with Parkside Pathway Fund and Growing Philanthropic Success
The University of Wisconsin-Parkside has awarded nearly $1 million in scholarships to nearly 350 students this academic year.
UW-Parkside is dedicated to making higher education accessible to students through robust scholarship programs, including the Future Focus Fund and efforts such as the Ascension Scholars, Froedtert Scholars, Callahan Scholars, and Picken Arts & Humanities Scholarship. These scholarships ensure that students have the financial assistance they need to succeed and complete their degrees.
“We’re committed to providing students with the tools they need to thrive academically,” said Dr. Akey, Chancellor of UW-Parkside. “These scholarships represent not just financial support, but also a promise to our students that they can achieve their dreams.”
A key initiative that exemplifies this commitment is the Parkside Pathway Fund, a new $75,000 fund created by the UW-Parkside Foundation Board. The Parkside Pathway Fund is designed to assist students—whether they are entering UW-Parkside directly out of high school or transferring from other institutions—by providing vital financial support to ensure that UW-Parkside can truly become their academic home.

Did You Know?
1. Students approved for exam/quiz accommodations should take the exam at the same time or at least the same day as their peers.
2. Students must schedule exams/quizzes in Accommodate 48 hours in advance (excluding Saturday and Sunday).
3. The testing area is never full- if a student reports they cannot schedule for the same day, they waited too long to schedule in Accommodate.
4. Students should obtain the instructor’s permission before scheduling an alternate day or time with SAS.
5. Instructors will get an automated email alert when a student schedules their exams/quizzes. This would be an opportune time to verify if it’s scheduled per your expectations.
6. SAS sends an email reminder with a cover sheet two days prior to the exam date. You don’t have to wait for the reminder to send the exam.
7. If a student misses an exam, it’s up to the instructor to determine when the student will reschedule. The instructor should email sas@uwp.edu and the student with a new day of retake.
