Sustainability Spotlight: A Boilerside Chat with Dale Lovejoy, UW-Parkside’s Power Plant Superintendent, for Energy Awareness Month

October was National Energy Awareness Month. During this month, Americans are encouraged to think about the importance of energy in our lives and how we can lead by example through improving energy efficiency and reducing energy waste. Understanding how energy generation systems function can also provide us with a better foundation for exploring energy alternatives.

UW-Parkside Sustainability Coordinator Emily Reed sat down to talk about energy with Dale Lovejoy, the superintendent of UW-Parkside’s Heating and Chilling Plant. Dale began working at UW-Parkside in 1994 and currently oversees the operation of building automation systems and the Heating and Chilling Plant to ensure a safe and comfortable learning environment for the campus. He was also recently awarded the University Staff Excellence Award by the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents.

Administrative Transformation Program (ATP) Updates

Workday Go-Live Revised to 2025

On October 6, 2023, the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents approved a revised timeline for the Administrative Transformation Program Workday implementation. Go-live is now scheduled for July 2025, revised from July 2024. End-user training will begin in March 2025.

The revision will provide adequate time to prepare for a successful implementation. We will continue to partner with ATP as we get ready for the transition to Workday.

ATP will standardize finance, human resources, and research administration processes, such as payroll and expense reporting, across the UW System. To learn more about Workday and subscribe to the ATP Touchpoints newsletter, visit the ATP website.

ATP Website

What Is ATP?

The Administrative Transformation Program (ATP) is on a mission to rebuild finance, human resources, and research administration systems at every institution within the University of Wisconsin System. The goal is to reduce the complexity of the current administrative environment and refocus valuable staff time on UW’s mission of education, research, and outreach.

To make this vision a reality, we’re working with people across the UW to standardize processes and implement new, best-in-class technology to support these essential functions.

Technology

To standardize business processes and integrate our systems, ATP will implement Workday and Huron Research Suite to replace HRS, SFS, and hundreds of ancillary systems across the UW.

People

ATP's success depends on knowledgeable staff who apply their time, talent, and expertise — both on and off the program team.

Process

Our business process redesign work is based on a tiered governance structure and tested methodology that includes faculty and staff from across the UW System.

Workday Walkthroughs

ATP will conduct monthly Workday Walkthroughs on a variety of topics. Recordings are available to anyone with a UW login. This walkthrough provides an overview of how to set up funding as a standalone process in Workday. Learn more about this walkthrough on the ATP website Watch How to Fund Positions in Workday.

SUSTAINABILITY SPOTLIGHT

EV Charging is Coming to UW-Parkside!

Why is UW-Parkside installing electric vehicle charging stations?

UW-Parkside is committed to being a leader in the community by showcasing emerging technologies. The number of electric vehicles present on campus has increased each year for both commuter and residential students. There are currently no on-campus options for residential students to charge their vehicles. For off-campus students and staff who rent, charging access can present a barrier to entry if the property manager does not install on-property charging options. Providing this convenient amenity will help meet the needs of students, staff, and guests to our campus and improve their experience. Station usage data can also be worked into curriculum, providing students with real-world understanding of how these technologies work.

When will the stations be up and operating?

The stations are planned to be operational in fall of 2023. Stay tuned - we will host an opening event to allow staff and students to check out the new installation and practice using the chargers!

UW-Parkside Inclement Weather Policy

This is a reminder of UW-Parkside policies in the event of inclement weather and weather emergencies.

This policy extends the application of UW System Administrative Policy 1235 to the UW-Parkside campus. It draws important distinctions between the university remaining open, which classes will be canceled, and closing the university. During a weather emergency, a decision may be made to:

  1. Keep the university open.
  2. Keep the university open, cancel in-person classes on campus, but allow hybrid, asynchronous, and synchronous online classes to be offered.
  3. Close the university.
