Quitters Win

Wintering - When Quitters Win

Dear beloved survivors,

We made it! We tumbled far and now we stand at Fisterra, the end of the known world, a precipice of 2024’s unknown unknowns. A part of us has already left, venturing ahead, already doing the thing we fear.

Will we follow in our own footsteps?

What do we carry from 2023 that we cannot bring into 2024?

I’m done waiting for the weight to leave. I’ve quit waiting and I’m learning to dance with it instead. Will you dance with me?

You don’t need more than what you have, but you might need to have a little less to receive more in 2024.

It has been a year of leaving home to feel at home where I am. Wherever I hang my Grandmom’s hat is home. Come what may, let's quit to begin again n' again, and dance until the end.

The final verse my Grandparents (our eldest Theorists) sang with me was a simple song,

"The Quitter wins in the end

When the Quitter quits to begin again"

Here you can hear us hanging out in our living room while effervescent movers bring our conversations to life. This is our story of our Father's Grandfathers and their song for the beaten and battered - my anthem for 2024.

May we never cease to remember “this world was made to be free in.” (D.Whyte) And if we are free, may we “fight, oh to fight, when hope’s out of sight” (R. Service) for the liberation of others. As my friend Wei says, “find the others.”

All we have is each other.

Yours through the years,

Amy

Snatches of Memories, My 2023 Reverie

I remember you

We danced around the world

Twice, to the end of it

I’ll return soon

Swimming in the echos of orca pod symphonies

At home with apex predators

In my childhood friend’s backyard

Wrapped in her late mother's

Woven orange and green blanket

Brazilian Zouk and Kizomba Nights

Juneteenth in NOLA’s French Quarter

Heatwaves and Disco daze

Ancestral treasure hunts

Cold plunges in seas, inlets, and glacier lakes

Twirling toes up in Redwood Canopies

From the river to the sea

Marches in the streets

No justice, no peace

We will not let you rest

Until we can all rest

Naps on planes, trains, and grassy peaks

Performing under the stars

Dreaming of dragons after dark

Cradled in an ancient rainforest

A grove for my grief

Time traveling through sunset skies

The eve the full moon faced my airplane window

And in the path of totality, never once eclipsed

You soothed my soul and lit up skylines

Seattle, San Fran, Amsterdam, London

Berlin, Barcelona, Zurich, and Prague

The Mother of all cities remade me

Trogen’s largest snow in a decade

Buried the Swiss Alps and birthed me

Dancing on mountains over the Mediterranean

With strangers and new old friends

Hundreds of golden hour glows

Soft stares

We live along vanishing lines

of Transatlantic transformation

Seeing your face

Face to face

Holding your hand

Hugging your back

Holding onto hope

Until we meet again

IN-PERSON IN THE WOODS

January 12-15, 2024

The ancient art of hugging embodies the conversational nature of reality. It teaches us how we as evolutionary beings connect through presence, pressure, and play, affirm compassion, and neutralize hostility. It inspires and aspires to navigate transformational convergences of philosophical and movement practice, language and story-telling, and the dynamics of sensorial experiences and intuition. It sparks coordination as rhythmical mapping that can solve any problem and help us do what we could never experience alone.

GRIEF GATHERING

Sunday, January 14, 2024 | 3pm - 4:30pm

Our Grief Gathering this Winter Season is an open invitation for our community to hold space for grief with compassion, and empathy, and deepen our relationships. Come as you are. Bring what you need to rest and grieve and we will be here to receive you at Wood Haven.

We will co-create offerings of song, dance, writing, and sound baths, that center our grief from a place of rest within our community. We will share food (potluck style) and gather afterward around the campfire at dusk.

If you are not able to join in person, RSVP and I will send you a video, original poem, and grief ritual to participate from where you are.

what people are saying...

Why, you might ask, would a medical school be interested in an artistic endeavor to map the collective emotional experiences? And the answer would be simply this:

We have forgotten that a primary source of our well-being is derived from the emotional and social interactions that we have with those around us and in the places we live. Our health is not just freedom from physical illness but positive, reinforcing experiences derived from our lives' contexts.

...The creative, expressive nature of the content is a reflection of a city with a soul, a city that embraces the left- and the right-brained to generate goodness for both our hearts and our bodies.

I encourage you to support the next iteration of the XYZ Atlas, so that what is a remarkable beginning to a meaningful project can grow to realize its full impact.

We are artists supporting artists. All boats rise with the tide. When I feel down, I get going. I get my hands busy creating and it creates a new mindset. We don't need your help, we want it. We will create with whatever we have. We would love for you to be a part of it because you are a part of us.
