A Letter from our President...

Dear AGA Family,

As we find ourselves in the full bloom of spring, with summer just around the corner, there’s a special feeling of hope and renewal in the air. It’s a season that reminds us of the beauty of fresh beginnings, not just in nature, but in the lives of the Golden Retrievers we are so fortunate to help.

This time of year also brings a busy season for rescue work. As families plan vacations and routines change, we often see an increased need for foster homes. Fostering truly bridges rescue and a forever home, offering our Goldens a safe and loving place to land while they wait for their perfect match. If you've ever considered fostering, now is the perfect time; even a short-term commitment can change a dog's life forever.

I want to take a moment to thank every one of you, our adopters, fosters, volunteers, and supporters. Adopt A Golden Atlanta would not exist without your compassion, your dedication, and your love for these amazing dogs. Every tail wag, every happy ending, every golden smile, it all happens because of you.

As we look ahead to a busy summer full of new beginnings, I hope you’ll continue to be part of this incredible journey with us. Together, we’re making a difference - one Golden at a time.

With heartfelt appreciation,

Patti Dickey

President, Adopt A Golden Atlanta

Recent Adoptions!

April was full of heartwarming adoption stories, proving once again that all dogs have the perfect homes waiting for them!

Here are just a few featured Golen Families for the month.

Nova2, now Ella, was rescued from a local shelter and quickly stole the hearts of a newly married couple. With a big fenced yard and parents who work from home, Ella is thriving and earning high marks in training! Thank you to everyone who made her happy ending possible!

Loki, a three-year-old Golden, came to AGA when his family moved and could no longer give him the life he deserved. After some initial anxiety, he quickly bonded with his foster mom. When he met his new family and their nine-year-old Golden, Daisy it was a perfect match! Now named Dug, he loves his new home, lake weekends, and may even become a therapy dog alongside Daisy.

Poki, a three-year-old Golden, came to AGA when her owner had to relocate and wanted the best for her. Shy at first, she quickly warmed up in her foster home proudly carrying her tennis ball everywhere! When she met her new family, she instantly bonded with their two boys. Now Poki enjoys daily walks, mountain house adventures, and endless love.

Sweet Maya was surrendered to AGA when her owner’s job required more travel. Playful and full of love, she found her perfect match with a family and a playful 9yo Golden brother, Murphy! Now named Nancy, she’s enjoying a big yard, parents who work from home, and endless snuggles.

Chip’s journey began at just 8-wks old when he was rescued from a shelter. His perfect match came when a family of previous AGA adopters, looking for a new companion for their dog Lilly, met him. Chip charmed everyone with his fetch skills, sharing kisses, and even splashing around in their pool!

Sweet little Espresso, a 10-mo-old pup, has found her forever home! Adopted by a family who already knew the joy of AGA Goldens, she’s settling in beautifully and loving her new life. Congratulations to Espresso and her wonderful family!

These stories are a testament to the power of rescue and the incredible families who open their hearts to dogs in need. Thank you to our adopters, fosters, volunteers, and supporters who make these happy endings possible!

Orphan of the Month:

Gibbs

Hey there, I’m Clark. You could say I’m a guy who knows what he likes in life: a good walk, a sturdy leash, and a human who understands that trust is earned, not rushed. I am a 3.5-year-old boy who weighs about 80 pounds, and I’ve got great house manners. I am housetrained, crate trained, and respectful inside the home. I am not a clingy dog, but I do enjoy being near my person in a calm, steady way.

What I am looking for is an adult-only home, ideally with one person or a quiet couple who’s experienced with strong, independent dogs like me.

I’m polite about affection, as I enjoy it in short sessions. I also thrive with structure and clear boundaries. I walk well on a leash (though you’ll need a strong arm!) and I’m non-reactive around others when out and about. I just ask to be the only pet in the home, no cats, no other dogs, and definitely no small kids. A fenced yard would be perfect so I can stretch my legs safely.

I do have a bit of resource guarding behavior, so I need someone experienced who can help me continue working on that with patience and clear boundaries. But with patience and consistency, I know I will continue to grow into the best version of myself.

If you’re someone who appreciates a loyal, smart, steady companion, someone who respects a dog’s need for both independence and connection, we might just be exactly what each other needs.

I hope to meet you soon, Clark

Check Your Dog

Once a Month on the 14th!

Facts about Cancer

in Dogs

Did you know that 1 in 3 dogs will be diagnosed with cancer? 50% of those dogs will die from cancer. In humans, there are 1.5 million new cases of cancer each year, but in dogs, there are 6 million new cases of cancer diagnosed each year. Dog cancer prevention is key to a long healthy life with your dog.

Checking your dog once a month for lumps and bumps or any abnormal behavior is key in the prevention of any health issue with your dog.

We recommend doing it on the 14th of every month. Monthly checks mean extra pets and love for your dogs while bringing peace of mind to you! If you are starting with a young dog, this time will also prepare them for their future vet wellness visits.

Now how exactly do you do this?

Start at their nose and work all the way to their tail. Make sure you are in a familiar, low-key environment where you and your pet can do this without distraction. In other words, not during dinner time or when you expect the mailman to be buzzing by the house.

Also, make sure you keep a journal of each of your

Check Your Dog days so you will have notes to

compare with should something arise.

How To Get Dog Pee Out of Carpet, Floors, and Couches

Whether you’re potty training a new puppy or noticing accidents with an older dog, one thing is certain: that dog urine smell isn’t pleasant.

Accidents happen—it’s natural. Practice patience and use positive reinforcement with puppies and dogs who are being house-trained. If your dog is already potty-trained but has started to have accidents, take them to the vet to see if there is a medical cause.

In the meantime, here’s how to get dog pee out of carpets, hardwood floors, and couches in your home.

For carpets, couches, or other areas that can’t be machine-washed, follow these steps:

  1. Manually blot the area to soak up excess moisture with a towel. Do not rub or wipe the spot, because that could cause the urine to spread through the fabric.
  2. Soak another towel with a hydrogen peroxide-based cleaner. Leave the towel and cleaner on the wet spot for 15 minutes (or however long the product instructions recommend).
  3. Blot and soak up the remaining moisture with a dry towel.
  4. Finally, apply an enzymatic cleaner, such as Nature’s Miracle or Rocco & Roxie Supply Co., to the spot and mop up with a clean towel.
