BEF Teacher Grant Project Showcase:

North Beverly Elementary School

"Steamroller Machine"

Awarded in June 2024, the Steamroller Machine Grant's goal is to provide sensory benefits to children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Deep pressure is a therapeutic modality in occupational therapy that produces a calming effect and has been used widely in practice.

Using pressure from a "squeeze machine" aka the Steamroller, helps regulate the sensory system, reducing stress and anxiety, emotional arousal and outbursts.

While the primary intent of this grant program is to provide this sensory benefit to the AIM students of North Beverly Elementary, the new Steamroller has become quite the attraction!

Many more of the student population have an opportunity to try it out with the assistance of the School's Occupational Therapy Team.

Great job North Bev!
