A Letter from our President...

Dear Friends of Adopt A Golden Atlanta,

As the 4th of July approaches, I want to wish you a safe and joyful holiday! While this is a time for celebration, it’s also important to remember that fireworks can be frightening and even dangerous for our pets.

Fireworks & Pet Safety Tips

If your dog struggles with anxiety during loud noises, now is the time to speak with your vet about medications or calming aids. Please don’t wait until the last minute. On the holiday itself, make sure your pets are indoors, microchipped, and have current ID tags. A quiet, safe space can make a big difference.

With Gratitude

To our amazing volunteers, fosters, adopters, and supporters—thank you! Your dedication keeps our mission going strong, and we are so grateful for all you do to give Golden Retrievers the second chances they deserve.

Save the Date: Golden Gala 2026!

We’re thrilled to announce that our next Golden Gala will be held on May 1, 2026 at the Atlanta History Center! It’s going to be an unforgettable evening, and we can’t wait to celebrate with you. Stay tuned for more details!

Wishing you and your furry companions a safe and peaceful Independence Day.

With heartfelt appreciation,

Patti Dickey

President, Adopt A Golden Atlanta

🎆4th of July Pet Safety Tips🎆

Independence Day is a time for celebration, but for many pets, it can be a stressful experience. With July 4th falling on a Friday this year, you can expect fireworks not just on the holiday, but all weekend long.

Here are some tips to keep your furry family members safe and calm:

🐾 Plan Ahead: If your dog is anxious around loud noises, talk to your vet now about calming medications or supplements. Make sure you have enough on hand for the entire weekend.

🐾 Create a Safe Space: Keep pets indoors and away from windows. Set up a quiet, cozy area where they can feel secure, soft music or white noise can help drown out loud bangs.

🐾 Update ID & Microchips: In case your dog bolts from fear, make sure they’re wearing a collar with up-to-date tags, and their microchip information is current.

🐾 Skip the Fireworks: Even if your dog doesn’t seem scared, avoid taking them to fireworks displays or crowded events. Better safe than sorry!

🐾 Exercise Earlier: Take your pup for a long walk or play session earlier in the day to help them rest more easily when the fireworks begin.

Keeping your pet calm and secure is one of the best ways to ensure a happy holiday for the whole family. Stay safe and give your Goldens an extra hug from all of us at AGA!

Recent Adoptions!

June was full of heartwarming adoption stories, proving once again that all dogs have the perfect homes waiting for them!

Here are just a few featured Golen Families for the month.

Once found with nine other puppies, Charlie's journey came full circle when he met his forever family at a Meet & Match event. Now one year old, this tennis ball-loving pup enjoys daily adventures, a doggy sister, and even a cat friend. Way to go, Charlie!

Energetic Jack needed a fresh start, and he found it with a former AGA family! After a pool dive and some epic ball-chasing, Jack made it clear he was home. With a fenced yard, toys galore, and weekends at the lake, he’s living the Golden dream!

Big personality, bigger heart, Arlo charmed his new family at a Meet & Greet and made himself right at home. With two human sisters and parents who work from home, Arlo’s life is now full of love, zoomies, and endless playtime!

Full of life and love, Sunny needed a family who could match her energy. She found it with a pool-loving crew who welcomed her after careful introductions. Sunny is thriving and grateful for her second chance, thank you, transport team!

Dobby (now Ozzie)

Left behind at 8 months old, Dobby’s luck changed when a Florida family spotted him online and made the trip to meet him. Now “Ozzie,” he’s beach-bound, pool-dipped, and loved beyond measure. His Braves-loving dad says he’s perfect!

Sparkey (now Rosie)

Once a stray, Rosie (formerly Sparkey) lit up the lives of her new family the moment she arrived. Her new parents were healing from loss, and Rosie brought joy right when they needed it most. Cuddles, kisses, and a yard to explore, she’s finally home.

These stories are a testament to the power of rescue and the incredible families who open their hearts to dogs in need. Thank you to our adopters, fosters, volunteers, and supporters who make these happy endings possible!

Orphan of the Month:

Calloway

Hi there, I’m Calloway, a gentle old soul looking for a soft place to land. For a long time, I wandered alone through Pike County, where there’s no animal control, just me, the road, and a lot of hope that someone would see me.

One day, a kind family did. They brought me into their home and gave me something I hadn’t felt in a while: safety. But with four dogs already in the pack, it turned out there just wasn’t room for one more. Even though their pups didn’t quite welcome me, I’m still a lover at heart. I’ve been staying with a wonderful foster, and she (along with the vet!) says I’m the sweetest old man you’ll ever meet. I’m calm, easygoing, and gentle, just looking for someone to stroll through life with.

I walk beautifully on a leash, I know commands, ride well in the car, and get along with cats and other dogs, but I would be happiest in a home where I am the only dog. I just like my mealtime and toy time to be respected. I prefer to eat in peace, and who can blame me? I’ve known what it’s like to go hungry.

I’m also good with cats and older kids (teens and up), and I have no problem meeting new people. I’m about 9 years old and 79 pounds of quiet companionship. I’ve recently been shaved, so I may look a little different right now, but my heart is golden through and through.

I do need to share one thing… I’m heartworm positive. But don’t worry, it’s treatable! I will get the treatment I need thanks to my donors and continue my journey to a full and healthy life. If you’re looking for a calm, loving buddy to share your days with, I just might be your guy.

With love, Calloway

This Summer, Make These Mini Hot Dog Treats for Your Pup

What better way to celebrate the Fourth of July than with a backyard BBQ? And don’t forget about your pup! There’s no reason to keep your party pup away from the festivities, especially when they can have their very own on-theme DIY dog treats to chow down on.

To help celebrate Independence Day with your favorite “hot dog,” try this easy homemade dog treat recipe. These adorable hot dog dog biscuits are so good that they’ll have your patriotic pup parading around in glory like the star they are! Check Your Dog

Once a Month on the 14th!

Facts about Cancer

in Dogs

Did you know that 1 in 3 dogs will be diagnosed with cancer? 50% of those dogs will die from cancer. In humans, there are 1.5 million new cases of cancer each year, but in dogs, there are 6 million new cases of cancer diagnosed each year. Dog cancer prevention is key to a long healthy life with your dog.

Checking your dog once a month for lumps and bumps or any abnormal behavior is key in the prevention of any health issue with your dog.

We recommend doing it on the 14th of every month. Monthly checks mean extra pets and love for your dogs while bringing peace of mind to you! If you are starting with a young dog, this time will also prepare them for their future vet wellness visits.

Now how exactly do you do this?

Start at their nose and work all the way to their tail. Make sure you are in a familiar, low-key environment where you and your pet can do this without distraction. In other words, not during dinner time or when you expect the mailman to be buzzing by the house.

Also, make sure you keep a journal of each of your

Check Your Dog days so you will have notes to

compare with should something arise.
