Honoring Family, Planning for the Future

This month, we celebrate Mother’s Day, a time to honor the women who have shaped our lives, and Memorial Day, a moment to reflect on the service members who gave everything for our country. These important days remind us just how much our families and legacies matter.

At Botti & Morison, we know that estate planning is not a one-time event. Life changes—so should your plan. If it’s been a few years since you reviewed your documents, or if you simply want a refresher on key estate planning principles, consider joining us for one of our free 2-hour Estate Planning Workshops. They’re also a great opportunity to invite friends or family members who haven’t yet created their own plans.

We’ll be in Valencia this month and will return to San Luis Obispo and Paso Robles later this year. Join us at an upcoming workshop, or forward this email to a friend or family member.

Happy Mother's Day, Happy Memorial Day, Happy May!

The $84 Trillion Question: Will Your Wealth Transfer Smoothly?

We are entering a historic shift in wealth—an estimated $84 trillion will be transferred from baby boomers to their heirs over the next two decades. That transfer includes investment accounts, real estate, and family-owned businesses.

But without the right planning in place, what should be a life-changing inheritance could turn into a financial and legal burden. Our latest blog explores how proper estate planning—through Living Trusts, gifting strategies, and business succession plans—can protect your legacy and ensure your wishes are honored.

Even if your plan is already in place, this blog is a timely reminder of why keeping it up to date matters—especially in this unprecedented era of generational wealth transfer.

What Is a Limited Power of Attorney and When Should You Use One?

Estate planning isn’t just about what happens after you're gone—it’s also about protecting yourself during your lifetime. A Limited Power of Attorney (LPOA) is a powerful, flexible tool that lets you appoint someone to act on your behalf for specific tasks and timeframes—without giving them broad authority over all your affairs.

Whether you're traveling, helping a loved one manage their finances, or recovering from a medical procedure, an LPOA can:

  • Authorize someone to sign documents (like for a real estate closing),
  • Manage specific accounts or bills,
  • Handle short-term business transactions.

Unlike a general durable POA, an LPOA is narrowly tailored and automatically expires when its purpose is fulfilled. It’s a smart solution when you need temporary help without giving up full control.
