Here's How to Get Started

Visit pvd.beanstack.com to log your reading, check out cool books and participate in fun programs. Complete the Summer Reading Challenge by reading 20 minutes a day for 40 days and be entered into the Grand Prize drawing.

Have fun with Passport to Summer Learning activity prompts. Exciting weekly themes are: Wildlife, Stargazing, Community Action, Fantasy, Beach and Water, Survival, Engineering, and Beyond the Beaten Path.

Pick up a starter kit of supplies when you sign up for the Summer Reading Programs at your library.

Try our Storybook Sundae!

Our special recipe for choosing a book makes reading as delicious and fun as eating ice cream on a hot summer's day! It was created by Rochambeau children's librarian and "chef," Ms. Sammi. "Reading is sweetest when kids are empowered to select their own books," explains Sammi (pictured below, with young readers). "Our Storybook Sundaes provide even our smallest readers with the tools they need to order exactly the book they want!”

At the conclusion of the summer reading program, kids will celebrate their reading successes by creating real sundaes at a real ice cream social.

We're a teenager! Celebrate the 13th birthday of Community Libraries of Providence with a community bike ride. Visit three of our libraries on a safely guided tour led by our partner organization, Providence Streets Coalition. We'll start and end at Smith Hill, visiting Wanskuck and Mount Pleasant. Enjoy some maker space activity at each stop, provided by PVD Young Makers. We'll provide refreshments, including cupcakes - it is our birthday, after all!
