Hello Donald,

I'm writing to notify you of eventual changes planned to the Charting Skills materials to reflect upcoming regulatory changes. You enrolled in the Charting Skills for Massage Therapists self-study (or in-class workshop), between 2017-2024.

The regulator in Ontario (CMTO) has expressed concerns in "over-collecting health information" for clients/patients of massage therapists, and will be providing guidance. "Information sought (over and above required information) should link to safe, effective treatment." As a result, the health history templates will be modified when the CMTO's new guidance is presented. Even if you are not an Ontario RMT, the regulator in your province will likely follow this convention.

I believe this review provides an opportunity to ask more specific and relevant questions related to the musculoskeletal system. You'll recall the recommendations from Netty & Moore (see side panel) that go beyond the standard guidelines to assist you in creating a more informed and robust professional opinion.

If you're planning to go digital, you can transpose the methodology you've learned in Charting Skills, whatever the program. Here are some guidelines when considering a digital charting platform. You also may enjoy 5 Principles to Punch Up Your Charting. More news to come.

In the interim...Happy Charting!

Have you picked up the internationally-selling textbook Outcome-Based Massage (4th edition)? I feel honoured to have some of the Charting theory included (chapter 5).
