January 2025 | Issue 41

Welcome to the Every Brain Matters monthly newsletter. We are a non-profit community developed by families negatively impacted by industrialized marijuana.

*Throughout this newsletter, the terms ‘marijuana’ and ‘cannabis’ are used interchangeably to refer to the same substance.

Feature of the Month: A Groundbreaking Publication

This month, we highlight Dazed & Confused… And Psychotic, a compelling white paper by Judy A. Clausen, Joanmarie I. Davoli, and Benjamin W. Lacy, MD.

The paper exposes the marijuana industry’s "dirty little secret": high-potency THC products can trigger psychosis, particularly in youth. Despite mounting evidence, the industry perpetuates a campaign of confusion to discredit studies linking THC to mental illnesses such as schizophrenia-like psychosis and delusional thinking.

The medical evidence is irrefutable, yet the media remains disturbingly silent. Scientific studies reveal that heavy cannabis use may be responsible for nearly one-third of schizophrenia cases among young men. Today's marijuana products are damaging the mental health of America's youth, but the truth is being belittled, ignored, and obscured.

In 2023, new research shattered the pro-marijuana narrative of "harmless fun." While marketed as a benign, natural mood enhancer, marijuana can cause lifelong psychiatric disorders in some users, including depression, suicidal ideation, psychosis, and even structural changes in brain anatomy. Despite the industry’s claims, heavy marijuana use is far from risk-free—it’s a public health crisis.

Hope For Recovery

Every Brain Matters is a supportive community for families affected by cannabis use disorder, cannabis-induced psychosis, or cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome.

In a world increasingly normalizing marijuana use, families need to know they’re not alone. Navigating the physical and mental health challenges of a loved one’s substance use can be overwhelming but also offers opportunities for healing and stronger relationships.

"I was powerless, smoking weed without seeing the damage it was causing. It all seemed easy—food, shelter, and money came my way—but it was never enough. I hit rock bottom before I could begin to rebuild."
