Matthew 25: Did You Know?
AFRICAN AMERICANS AND LAND – PART 1
"Greed has continued since ancient times. Some Europeans arriving in the Americas primarily sought religious freedom. Still, many simply sought wealth, recognizing the potential to produce goods the Old World markets would buy, such as sugar cane, tobacco, rice, and later, cotton.
Early efforts to enslave Indigenous peoples were mostly unsuccessful, but kidnapped Africans could not easily escape. Between the early 1500s when slave ships first arrived in the Caribbean and the early 1800s when international slave trade was outlawed, an estimated 12.5 million people were captured for a perilous journey in which 15 percent perished."
