Honoring Legacy, Amplifying Truth

Help WBAI Continue the Fight for Justice!

As we write this update on our Winter pledge drive we’ve raised $70,428.16 toward our $125,000 goal with 7 days to go until the end of the year. We have a heavy lift but not impossible with your help.

We know it’s the holidays and you are busy but it’s really critical we hear from you before the end of the year to keep us on the air in 2025.

On Monday, we were so grateful to Chris Hedges for coming into our studios at 388 Atlantic Ave. providing a live update on Gaza.

This morning, interim Program Director Keziah Glow led an essential conversation about the toxic legacy from the 9/11 WTC attack and botched clean-up that followed. As a consequence of the U.S. EPA misleading the public that the air was “safe to breathe” more people have died from their occupational exposure to the toxic dust than the almost 3,000 people that died that day.

This week, the U.S. Congress failed to fully fund the 9/11 WTC Health Program. Tomorrow morning we will be rebroadcasting our two-hour radio screening of Bridget Gormley’s documentary Dust-9/11’s Lingering Toxic Legacy. It chronicles the first person story of Bridget’s father UFA FDNY Firefighter William “Billy” Gormley, who died in 2017 at age 53.

Bridget’s film has as its foundation in the enduring bonds of her Dad’s co-workers at Snyder Island’s Engine 310 Ladder 174 that’s captured in kitchen table conversations his crew has with Bridget after his passing.

The film lays out the post 9/11 occupational health issues, the official resistance to acknowledging what was happening as well as describes the wide swath of human misery that resulted for both first responders and the wider circle of civilian survivors.

WBAI-Pacifica has been bringing you these essential conversations for over 60 years. We can’t continue without your support.
