Who's Retiring?

If you haven't heard, Microsoft is retiring main stream support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025. What does this mean for hundreds of millions of users worldwide that have computers still running Windows 10 now and potentially after October 14, 2025?

Just like Windows versions that have preceded Windows 10, they continue to run even after Microsoft stops supporting them. The main challenge is that security patches and updates stop coming, so, a machine without updates becomes more and more vulnerable to breaches the longer it continues to be connected to the outside world via the Internet.

No, Anti-Virus and Anti-Malware won't take the place of the Operating System patches and "fixes", nor will they likely work effectively to prevent potential breaches. So, the prudent user should make efforts in advance of this October deadline to upgrade their devices to Windows 11, or if their computer isn't compatible, they should replace the machine with a new Windows 11 or other operating system such as MacOS or Chrome. A new device may fit your needs even better than your current Windows system.

Since millions of users are still running Windows 10, there will be a huge demand for new equipment, so it is a good idea to plan now to update/replace as needed. For many business owners, summer is a great time to take care of any necessary upgrades as things are often slower and there are less disruptions. Your Tech Concierge™ is available to offer support and guidance in your quest to resolve your new hardware and software needs. Please schedule a mutually convenient time for a FREE complimentary review of your needs: https://askavie.click/Schedule

Are you sharing too much via "Conventional Communication"?

📂📁 Secure your Data Transfers📁📂

As part of my onboarding process and/or when sending private and privileged information over the Internet, I advise using secure communication techniques and tools. To encourage the ability to securely share passwords and other private files and info, I utilize encryption over the Internet, Private Network and in digital file storage. Here are some of the tools that I utilize and recommend.

Phase 1: First, I invite you to use Signal, an encrypted messaging service. If you don't already have an account, you create a Signal! account starting with this link: https://signal.org/

Phase 2: Once you have Signal installed on your phone, setup a Free Proton account so that we may share encrypted e-mail and files.

Any encrypted files I share with you will be protected with a strong password. I will use Signal to share the password in advance of the communication. Sending the secure communication over multiple encrypted tools adds additional layers of protection and offers less opportunities for compromise.

While these steps are certainly less convenient than simply using conventional communication channels, encryption is one necessary element we use to comply with today's security standards in efforts to protect our personal and intellectual property.
