Living Desert Alliance Welcomes New Board Member
Frank Staub
We are proud to introduce the newest member of our Board of Directors, Frank Staub.
Frank is a photographer/writer with hundreds of credits, including numerous articles and audiovisual productions. During the early days of mountain biking, he was a contributing editor at Mountain Bike and Mountain Bicycling Magazines. He created the photography for 33 children’s books on subjects ranging from manatees to mountain goats and Yucatan to the Yellowstone fires. He wrote 29 of these books, which received eight national awards.
In addition to these accomplishments, Frank worked seven seasons as a whitewater guide on Colorado's Arkansas River and wrote a detailed guidebook, The Upper Arkansas - Rapids, History, and Nature. He also served as president of the Salida, Colorado Audubon Chapter.
Currently, Frank concentrates his efforts on sustainable construction and lifestyles, fighting buffelgrass, and a long-term project titled "Here Today" implying that what's in the photos could be gone tomorrow. He was named a Volunteer of the Year by the Tucson Mountain Association.
Frank lives in an off-the-grid strawbale house with solar electricity, passive solar heating, composting toilets, earthen plastered interior walls, and rainwater harvesting as the sole water source. The house was built to minimize its visual impact on the dramatically beautiful location at the border of Saguaro National Park.
Welcome Frank! We are honored to have you on board.
