Notes of Joy - Week of July 11
This Week's Gospel: Mark 6:14-29
When Amos reports his vision of God judging Israel for its mistreatment of the poor, he becomes a threat to the power of the priests and the king. John the Baptist also speaks truth to power, and Herod has him killed. In Herod’s fear that Jesus is John returned from the dead, we may hear hope for the oppressed: all the prophets killed through the ages are alive in Jesus. We are called to witness to justice in company with them, and to proclaim God’s saving love.

Welcome Pastor Sean!

Dear Siblings in Christ,

I am so excited to have started this week at Joy Lutheran Church! I look forward to meeting you all in time as we gather together for worship, fellowship, service, and mission. Becky and I are so grateful for all of you who have reached out and welcomed us to Eagle River. While our trek through Canada proved challenging at times, it nonetheless was an opportunity to marvel at God’s wondrous creation. Between seeing bears and moose along the roadway, mountains, glaciers, and serene lakes, we found ourselves in awe.

As I continue to get settled, I will be posting regular office hours in the weekly announcements. Please feel free to stop by the office to say hello or make an appointment with me. I am happy to meet with you at the church, local coffee shop or somewhere else. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me during an emergency such as hospitalizations or loss of a loved one.

For this new chapter in the life of our ministry together, we pray:

O God, you have called your servants to ventures of which we cannot see the ending, by paths as yet untrodden, through perils unknown. Give us faith to go out with good courage, not knowing where we go, but only that your hand is leading us and your love supporting us; through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Peace & good courage friends,
-Pastor Sean
