Notes of Joy - Week of July 25
This Week's Gospel: John 6:1-21

Sunday is the first of five Sundays with gospel readings from John 6, the first four of which focus on Jesus as bread of life. Today Jesus feeds thousands of people with five loaves and two fish. What we have, what we bring to Jesus’ table, seems like it is not nearly enough to meet all the needs we see around us. But it is not the adequacy of our supplies or our skills that finally makes the difference: it is the power of Jesus working in the littlest and least to transform this world into the world God desires, a world where all the hungry are satisfied.

RECAP FROM JULY 14TH COUNCIL MEETING

Our July council meeting was the first with Pastor Sean in attendance and marked his first week as our new permanent pastor. It felt wonderful to be discussing our future together.

Some key points from the meeting:
  • Covid protocol on Sunday morning will remain the same (alternate rows, no contact Passing of the Peace and masks encouraged for unvaccinated). Protocol reviewed monthly.
  • Communion twice a month (2nd and 4th Sundays) with pre-sealed cups. Communion assistants will give a blessing as cups are received.
  • Individual Giving Statements as of 6/30/2021 will be emailed soon.
  • Blessing of the Backpacks is scheduled for August 15th.
  • Sunday School is tentatively set for September 12th with multi-generation activity planned.
  • Pastor Sean will be posting his office hours and contact information.
  • Date for Pastor Sean’s official installation to be coordinated with Bishop Shelley and then announced to congregation.

If there are any issues/questions/comments you would like us to consider, you are encouraged to contact any of the council members. Our next council meeting is August 10th. We are excited to begin this new chapter together.

Communion Plan Update
We will be transitioning to communion on the 2nd and 4th Sundays in July and August.

On these Sundays, ushers will direct people to two communion stations at the front. At each station, we will use the pre-packaged communion wafers/wine. Pastor Sean will be at one station and we will need a communion assistant at the other. You can signup for this on the Worship Assistant Schedule on the bulletin board in the narthex. See Pr. Sean if you have any questions or want a little instruction. All are welcome!

** Communion will be offered this Sunday, July 25 **
Call for Choir Participants
We have formed a choir to sing at Audrey Fredeen’s memorial service on August 1 at 2:00. There's still time if anyone wants to participate. Please contact Marcia Wakeland at mwakleland@gmail.com, or see Mona Mitton.

We will be practicing after worship this Sunday.
Joy of Reading Book Club
The next meeting will be August 16th at 6:30 PM.   Lois Lester will be hosting and providing dinner.  Appetizers and wine welcomed.   The book is The Downstairs Girl by Stacey Lee.

The book for September is West with Giraffes by Lynda Rutledge.  The meeting will be September 20th.

We welcome new members!  If you have been curious about what goes on at Book Club, please join us!   We are happy to have you even if you haven’t had a chance to read the book.   We all need a little social time.
