September means we were back to our usual busy pace with some weekends slower than others but still, well, bursting with cafes! Ossining returned along with cafes in Warwick, New Paltz, Middletown and more.

Repair Day Celebrated Worldwide on October 18th

On October 14, Microsoft is ending free support for Windows 10. This decision lead to an enormous increase in electronic waste. As a result, this year's International Day of Repair which takes place on October 18th focuses on this issue. The Open Repair Alliance, an international group of repair advocate organizations including Repair Cafe International, is helping community groups around the world save laptops from landfill by either keeping them running on Windows 10 or helping upgrading them to a Linux operating system. This international group effort will then collect data to show just how large scale this movement can be when working together to save electronics from premature obsolescence.

As requested, we here at RCHV have added all of our cafes beind held October 11th through October 26th to the international map of events for this celebration which marks the 16th year of repair cafes worldwide. Coincidentally, 16 is also how many cafes we're holding during that period!

October brings us more treats than tricks with loads of cafes throughout the Hudson Valley all month long. Apologies for the small text, as you can see--this calendar is PACKED! Just the thing to celebrate the International Day of Repair on Saturday, October 18th.

Got something that just needs some gluing and can't wait to a cafe in your area? You know you can do it, but maybe you're hung up on which glue to use for the job. The handy website This to That breaks it down for you! Just enter 'this' and 'that' and it'll recommend the best glue/s for the job. Hat tip to the folks at the Hastings Repair Cafe for sharing this great resource.
