What better way to spend a summer morning than painting at the beach, even if the beach comes to you?

This week, Art with Liz explores the sun-drenched world of American Impressionist Edward Henry Potthast, a master of capturing the joy of seaside life whose canvases practically shimmer with warmth and movement. Students will create their own beach scenes using watercolors, acrylics, and oil pastels while revisiting the fundamentals of Impressionist technique. All materials are provided and all skill levels are welcome, including complete beginners.

*Please note that from August 13 through September 8, Art with Liz moves to the Grand Street Branch at 124 Grand Street, second floor. Follow the wayfinding signs. The class remains available live on Zoom and YouTube, with recordings available on demand. Registration is required

The Hunger Games Training Center

Teens are invited to report to the Hunger Games Training Center, otherwise known as Church Square Park, for an afternoon of giant lawn games, field day races, and serious strategy. Channel your inner Katniss or Peeta, assemble your alliance or go it alone, and put your skills to the test in a rotation of activities inspired by the series. This is one tribute experience you actually want to sign up for.

The future is being built right here in the MakerSpace.

This teen-led robotics program uses VEX classroom robotics kits to introduce teens and adults to the fundamentals of coding and programming, giving participants hands-on experience making small robots complete real tasks and challenges. Designed as a five-session series running through August, you are welcome to drop in for one class or come back for all of them.

Space is limited to 10 students per session, so registration is required. Come build something.

Spanish Conversation Cafe

¡Vamos a practicar español!

Spanish Conversation Café is a monthly meetup for adults who have some Spanish under their belt and want to build confidence actually using it. This is a casual, supportive space to practice your conversational skills, connect with fellow learners, and shake off any rust in a low-pressure setting. Light refreshments will be served.

Please note this is not a beginner Spanish class, some prior knowledge of the language is required.
